Opening evening - NY Bird Down
Well I went out this evening to our money spot where the birds always come to roost at night. sure enough they were right on time! Had a group of five gobblers come feeding in and managed to get a crosshair on this one
![]() Didn't weigh him before I breasted him out, but the beard was 10.5 inches and the spurs were just over 3/4 of an inch. |
Wow, nice fall bird...looks like a 2.5 year old! Congrats!

Congrat's on your fall gobbler.

Gmil... when did season start?

Thanks guys, I was pleasantly surprised how big he was. Like I said he was in a group of gobblers and I didn't really have time to size them up, I just picked one out in the scope and let him have it.
Western MA - I hunt in 4F, the season started Yesterday and goes until the last day of bow season (Nov. 20th). In the Fall in NY they break the state up into like four areas, 4F is in the most liberal area, we are allowed two birds, either sex, and the longest season. I prob wont go out turkey hunting again this fall, I like to have at least one tag in my pocket in case a flock walks by while I'm in a stand bowhunting. I've yet to get one with a bow, but I came pretty close last year. |
The only thing about the bird was he had a pretty sorry looking fan haha. This picture is kinda dark but you look closely you can see all the tail feathers in the middle are missing
