Public (or private) turkey hunting in W. Virginia or Maryland?

Just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some good turkey habitat in either state. I plan on driving to one or the other this summer to explore a little bit, and then go down to hunt next spring. I would possibly be willing to swap for a hunt here in PA if someone is reluctact to give up good hunting ground.

Thanks

Tyler

Best public spot in Maryland would be in Garrett county (borders PA). Savage river state forest over 50,000 acres, non contiguous, its not all in the same place. Get a map. Turkeys everywhere, but they are very smart. Dont go on Saturdays, too crowded. Get as far away from the roads as you can.

Next best public land is in Allegany county (also borders PA). Green ridge state forest over 30,000 acres, same as above.

I also head for the mountains of western MD to chase turkeys each spring. It' s true, there are turkeys pretty much everywhere on public land, but they' re outnumbered by all the hunters you' ll encounter which has made them especially spooky. The eastern shore is quickly rising to the top of the list as a good turkey producer and I know they' re available on public land there as well, but I have no personal experience hunting them there.
