I've not had any on the NY deer I harvest in Chenango County though.:confused0024:

The only thing worse than a tick is one with wings. Those deer keds creep me out.Nothin worse than that familiar feeling of one crawling up the back of your neck.I think they're wrosr in october as well.

But keds don't transmit Lyme disease , so IMHO ticks are much worse. I'm still picking up at least one or two a day even though we don't have many deer.

Has anyone found a study where Lyme disease decreased as the herd was reduced.

Since deer ticks favorite hosts are deer AND rodents, the size of deer herd often has little to no effect on the tick population. Favorable weather has much more to do with the good and bad tick years.

Now that 's interesting since Lyme disease is often cited as a reason for deer/human conflict that is used to justify reducing the herd.

I just went tromping around the Patuxent River State Park in MD yesterday doing some scouting and I was surprised to find that I had not gotten a single tick while I was out. I was trudging through some pretty thick brush at times too.
