Question about PA elk guides
If a guy were lucky enough to draw a PA elk tag, how expensive are the guides?
Anyone know of someone that has had experience with one of them? I'm just curious as to what they'd charge. Probably money well spent for a once in a life time chance at a PA elk, especially a nice bull. |
Somebody?
Anybody? Surely someone's, neighbor's, brother's, girlfriend's, brother-in-law's, uncle's, buddy knows something about one of these guides. |
I know one guy that got drawn for a cow tag and he used a guide.I think he was charged around 1k.I live within 5 minutes of a fairly large herd of elk that have moved in over the past few years.I can honestly say that If I ever applied for and recieved a tag,I wouldn't even consider using a guide.I doubt I would use a rifle either.

You can get a guide that will do nothing but show you the area where the elk are and then the rest of the hunt and getting the animal out up to the hunter for very little cost. You can also have guide service just like out west where they put you up in a lodge, provide all meals, have a guide working with you all the time, pack out and butcher your harvest. Those full service guides though typically charge over a thousand dollars for the hunt and it of course cost more the longer it takes or to harvest one of the higher quality bulls from some of the more remote areas. If you get drawn for a permit though you will have a lot of guides calling you within the first few days of being drawn. R.S. Bodenhorn |
Don't know if it still applies, used to be if you are a nonresident and got drawn, you had to hire a guide. Looking through the journal I couldn't locate anything that still has that restriction. Perhaps RSB would have better info on that.
