I only saw 6 deer that day. Use to see 25-30. Every year I see fewer and fewer.
I thought it was bad when I saw only 8 the year before.
I'd much rather see small bucks and more does than only a couple deer and bigger bucks.
I loved when my daughter use to hunt. She quit 3 years ago because she didn't like only see a couple deer. Back when she could see 25, she didn't get bored.

>It was more fun when everyone got a deer.
Your fantasy never existed. There has NEVER been a time when everyone got a deer.
Historically only about 1 in 10 have harvested a buck in PA. For a few year in the early 2000's it got as high as 1 in 5 got a buck.
Every single season in the history of PA hunting more hunters did not harvest a deer than did. I'll write that again.

You are the typical spoiled PA hunter who needs 20, 30 100 deer sightings a day to be happy. Only concerned about your own personal satisfaction and giving two rats ass about the resource or the future generations that get to inheirate our decisions.
That's a really nice buck but you still figure out a something to piss and moan about?
I am so glad I moved across the state line of PA when I did. Not sure what is in the water but I don't want to drink it if it cause's this kind of thinking.

The resource is in no danger. Nor would it be with a few more deer. But not only do most of us not give two rats asses, we dont even give one about excessive amounts of trillium and hobblebush, which are the reasons for the extreme measures built into our deerless management plan. Extreme biodiversity. Its the goal above and beyond the basic goals of herd and habitat health. Its audubons wet dream and Mr. Shissler when he was on the deer management team and others saw to it that the provisions within the plan were made. Now they need ripped out by the roots and tossed on the dung pile. [:'(]

I would be happy seeing 6 deer a day. The era of easy killing is over, now we really have to learn how to hunt.

Said she has no problem eating what I kill, but doesn't think she could do the actual killing. Next, the earlier jabbing. That's me! Hunting ,fishing, work or at home,I pull that stuff. Doesn't matter what I'm doing,I try to make it fun. The little exchanges between you and I,corn or anybody else is all in fun. I just like to see what kind of comebacks I get and that frick'n corn can come up with some honeys. As for the deer, that's why I started viewing this site. If you look in matts thread, are we loosing site. You will see that I posted a statement that my dad was not a deer hunter. He just went to hang around his buddy's and to be outdoors. It really didn't matter if he shot a deer. So with that, when it came time for me to deer hunt,we ended up on club property just down the road or my grand fathers farm. Both of at that time had hardly squat for deer.A half dozen deer for the whole week was a normal week.Very few hunted around hear. They all went north to their camps. So being exposed to that type of deer hunting (low numbers)right from the start. That's why I don't understand what the fuss is all about. When I finally started hunting on my own.I went to the nearby mountains to hunt. The deer numbers where higher and I killed deer. But I went back to these local small patches. That ment more meat from a harvested deer
.That beingharder deer to hunt and bigger is what made it quality hunting for me.I'm by no means claiming to be a trophy hunter! I just prefer the small woodlot and flood control area's to hunt.I also know, everyone has their own views what is quality hunting. It was obvious from your photos, you have been very successful, both in numbers and some quality bucks. Again, that's why I couldn't understand why you are still unhappy.Last,my daughter fished from when she was 5 through 14. Then she quit. She just now starting back into it. Maybe the same will happen with your daughter and hunting?
