Basically what that shows is tons of hunters who are given too many tags are still reducing the herd, and the harvests are unsustainable.

Dont have much time to be on today, but will post this quickly for you lans, just to show what a true joke Pa is compared to "normal" states.

Georgia in 2007 had only 291,911 total deer hunters. They harvested 143,092 bucks. That is more buck harvested than us with over 900,000 hunters. Link: ONE STATE OF MANY BETTER THAN PA

Similar things to this can be done over and over and over for other states of the country. RSB posts deceptive data that shows nothing. Here in Pa what good is higher harvest per square mile if your overall odds per hunter are lower??? What good is it if its unsustainable? What good is it if the buck harvest is declining steadily (along with herd size) because of that overharvest of does??

Virginia has 224K hunters and here are the harvest stats.
Virginia 2008-2009 Deer Kill Summary
During the past deer season 253,678 deer were reported killed by hunters in Virginia. This total included 111,863 antlered bucks, 22,291 button bucks, and 119,524 does (47.3%). This represents a 4% increase from the 242,792 deer reported killed last year. It is also 16% higher than the last 10 year average of 212,780. Across the state, deer kill levels were up in all regions including in the Northern Mountains (2%), Northern Piedmont (3%), Southern Mountains (1%), Southern Piedmont (4%), and Tidewater (8%).
Now that's what I call good deer hunting.

Now RSB will probably tell you that only translates to 5.93 Deer/Square Mile, compared to PA's 7.49 Deer/Square Mile.

The big BUT, is that if one happens to apply the PGC's "Reporting Rate Fudge Factor", VA's harvest (which is an actual reported rate) would actually translate into 9.48 Deer/Square Mile.

it was worst say back in early 2000 area, lots of doe were killed and buddies shared tags after filling theirs.its not that easy now but many are putting in a lot of time to get deer.you take 6 dcnr hunters in group with 4 or 5 tags aand they are going to fill them but will take them from sept to end of rifle to do it.

when i see crew of hunters from areas where there IS gooddeer hunting in areas like clinton county not concerned if 1 deer is even left, it bothers me.

i wish there was way to put end to it,talking to them has been a no win for me.i will say, HEY FELLAS CAN YOU PASS ON DOE/FAWN as few are here.
answers is,MY SON WHO IS COLLEGE STUDENT SAYS HE SAW HERDS OF DOE HERE IN THE EARLY MUZZLELOADER SEASON.

my cousin was in our gang and always sawlots of deer when he was driving deer.i had chance 1 time as i put him as edge man ,i was next in,so when we got going, i snuck over and watched him.

first he went to path so he did not have to go thru brush, then when it got easy, up he came back.he then shot up in air 3 times yelling,YO, YO, YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

i said, what the h are you doing.
he said, you got to liven up guys.

these are same people that the PGC/DCNR believes.sad isnt it? HOW DID I WANDER OFF TOPIC AGAIN?

Thanks Sproul. Since BlueBird and Cornelius quoted it, I was hoping they could share how long the rifle/gun seasons were in Ga. and Va.

They won't. Georgias rifle season is oct-17 to Jan 1 about 2-1/2 months + if you have a large enoughtract you can hunt with dogs. Not what I would call anapples to apples comparison.

I "wouldnt" answer, because I havent been here.!..... and now that I am.... It doesnt matter...

Patsy, use your head my friend. It doesnt matter if the season is one day or 365 days. The harvest is what it is. In my example, they killed more deer with between 3 and 4 times less hunters. The time doesnt matter, because if WE had more time, as they do to hunt, our herd would go EVEN SMALLER because of even more reduction. The reason they CAN have longer seasons is because they dont have 900,000+ hunters and a bazillion doe tags.. AND Because of that they have a high buck success rate, and arent slaughtering the deer herd.

So it doesnt matter if they hunted an hour or standing on their heads, almost half the hunters killed bucks, and here one in ten does.

You can say...thats not possible because of the hunter numbers in Pa. But there is no reason we cannot be killing many more bucks or more if SOME herd growth were permitted, and the antlerless slaughter restricted a bit, regardless of hunter numbers.

And the state BB spoke of, Virginia, has a two week rifle season. Remember these are only 2 examples of MANY in the country with better hunting.
