When you calculate the actual percentage decrease, yes it equals 42% but isn't it possible that this42% decrease (approx. 1.6 buck) could be a result ofhunters actually choosing to pass on a smaller buck or even more plausable that these 1.6 bucks were not legal, therefore not shot? Actually if you want to play with the numbers you can probably show many different angles by using percentages vs numbers. It is only my opinion that when your dealing with these figures a small variation results in a much greater impact if looking at percentage. In fact, if you average the male harvest figures for the entire 27 years (4.57), the 2008 avg is only0.79 less than the avg male harvest rate for all years listed. Also, the avg. doe harvest for the entire 27 yrs (3.78) is only 0.07 more than the 2008 harvest.

I guess my point isthat everyone should consider the actual percentages less(I believe it can be misleading) and consider what the actual numbers represent.I just think that using percentages when dealing with the smaller numbers distorts the actual story. Just throwing in my 0.02 dollars.

But after passing on the non-AR legal 1.5 buck, shouldn't those hunters have harvested a 2.5 buck that was saved by ARs the previous year?

I know this may come as a shock, but maybe they didn't see one, or they were holding out for 3.5/older, which, by the way, does not equate to them not being there.

crokit yeh im sure thats the reason. very few PA. hunters hold out for a 3.5 year old or older buck (though I have done so since I was 18) I have been hunting sheds since I was 16, over the last 5 years i am finding less 2.5 year old sheds and alot less 3.5 year old and older sheds than I did prior to AR. & HR. Its not rocket science that with HR we have half as many deer, that you would find say .....half as many sheds.

You argue just like a bitter wife. Bringning up things that are no longer relevantwhen youcan't come up with something current and intelligent to say. When are you going to let Alts misstatement go? (by the way, you have embellished it above making it a lie anyway).

We all know Alt overstated things while sellingthe plan. He's gone. Move on instead of exaggerating it and making yourself a liar once again

BTB, bb's response to bawana jim is word for word for how I would have responded!! Regardless of whether or not ALT is gone the plan he sold was not his it was the PGC.'s. The plan was based on lie's, sold on lie's and still to this day is nothing but lie's.

Bawana, I read your post were you said that you saw 61 deer on your property and I doubt you seen them all, (nothing wrong with that if you were against the PGC.'s plan) But how can you support the PGC. up and down and not try to support the PGC in their managment efforts by doing all you can do to reduce your deer to 5-10 deer per square mile? Nothing worse than a hypocrit. Pike

BTB on your property in IL. im sure you practice QDM., what is your target goal for deer per square mile? what is the ILDNR's target goal for your area of IL? Do you realize that the MI. DNR manages its herd at 28.9 deer per square mile? Do you also realize that the ODNR manages its herd at 25 deer per square mile? ( which by the way is one of the healthiest herds in the counrty) Pike

First of all Jeff, it's apples vs oranges to compare my Ill property but I'll answer your question. We only have 600 acres and we have a lot of underhunted ground around us. We have a harvest goal of 15-20 adultdoes per year so the deer density is obviously quite high on the surrounding properties. We arrived at that goal by the seat of our pants after much discussion with thelandowner and also his tenant farmer. It seems to be working out quite well and improving every year.

Ill and Ohio are not at all like PA. We don't have anywhere near the agriculture and edge that they do. Any comparison just isn't very meaningful IMHO

Normally I would elaborate more but I have to be cutting this short, gotta go. The bride has stuff for me to do
