You can add 2 of my Cuddeback digital cameras, one in archery season and one in rifle season. This was done in the Newark Valley area of Tiogo County. There are too many thieves in our ranks.

I feel your pain Coalcracker. I had 2 cameras stolen end of the 07' season. It was in the last wk, and I moved 2 my cameras to a section of apple tree's the deer were hitting. I got lazy, and didn't secure them like I usually do. There was 6" snow on the ground, figuring noone would trespass when I could follow their prints. Well this low life trepassed, shot a deer, and dragged it out right by my trail cameras. I was thinking great I'll have him on camera! Instead I found he took my trail cameras with him to. To add a little kick in the butt he dragged the deer within 5ft of my camp.
So now I lock them all with chain/cable & padlock. Plus I put a few several feet up in tree's to catch any trespassers.

The guy that took the camera during buck season, wasn't only a trespasser and a theif, because the camera was within the safety zone of my sons neighbors trailer.

I didn't post this a pick on the N.Y. hunters, it was just to get this off my chest, I'm sure it happens everywhere, every state has slobs. Here in PA, people think that trespassing should be a game violation, but it doesn't seem to help in N.Y., so it wouldn't make a difference in PA either.

Thanks for the idea of two cameras, it would be nice to catch them stealing. So far my son and the one fellow that hunt this property, have just been warning trespasser. It borders State Forest and has just been posted the last two year. The other fellow that hunts it, is from the area and said all the hunters he has chased are from that area.

I am personally very suprised at the results. I expected deer harvests in the adirondack counties to be way, way down. I've been hunting the Indian Lake and Speculator areas, and know a few folks that have camps outside Warrensburg. We all agreed the 2008 season was tough. Deer numbers seemed to be well below levels we had seen in previous years (or so we thought), due to the very hard winter. I know that Indian Lake had 160" of snow in the 2007-2008 winter, and I saw a deer (on average) once for every 3 days in the woods. The past few seasons I was seeing deer everyday, and had little trouble filling all my tags. Also, the deer I did see were all mature, which tells me the does didn't drop too many fawns, or they didn't make it around to fall.

Everyone I talked to said the same thing - the winter put a hurting on the herd and they weren't seeing deer. I guess this was a localized experience?
