RE: Changes you would like for Hunting Season
ORIGINAL: mlo31351270 I would like to see one buck per season (year)in NY. Three point antler restrictions does nothing.A large % ofyearling bucks have three points on one side. Four points on one side would be better. They could never make 4 points on one side in for the whole state of NY, some areas just have god awful genetics, this isent iowa or illinois where its about the same all over...The place i hunted this year they took a 4.5 year old 6 point buck, and a two 2.5 year old forkhorns. |
RE: Changes you would like for Hunting Season
As this thread asked solely what each of our opinions are as to what we each would like in our perfect little world, here is mine.
-Smaller WMU's -BOC that doesn't sell us out to the tre huggers and timber cos. -Higher DD in most WMU's. -No Xbows unless you need one, or you can use it during late season or general rifle. -Optional Trophy buck tag...cost around $40 ...must have minimum spread and point count. -Late season includes crossbows and in lines. -Early ML becomes flint only, no scopes. -Archery season runs one more week at the end. (The "down week" prior to bear season has alwayspuzzled me, and many years robs us of peak rut bowhunting opportunity.) |
RE: Changes you would like for Hunting Season
I would like to see a longer Bow season and a state wide 4 points to one side on all bucks. No In-lines during archery season and a late Trad Bow only season in Feb. Do away with the 2 week rifle Buck season and make it Bow only:D Just kidding!!!!

Smaller WMU's
Mandatory call in or online harvest reporting within 24 hours of harvest. (feasible once the POS licensing is up and running) Seperate crossbow license and tracking. If the crossbow skews the archery harvest, shorten the season as needed for that weapon. Lengthen archery season by adding a week at a time to the early season until the archery harvest is proportionate to the gun harvest as measured by hunter percentages. Change the selection process for the BOC to better allow for hunter input Mandatory bowhunter ed for all new hunters using a weapon that propells a bolt or arrow Put in a COLA type structure for license fee increases |
