Looks like more of the same nonsense for 2003/2004! My Zone 2 will now be earn-a-buck with INCREASED permit hunting! What' s up w/this? I have written to the state denouncing the long Jan Permit season and have not been encouraged that this will ever stop. I' m not sure about everyone else but the quality has dropped in my ZOne around the time that the unlimited Permit season started. Just curious but I do not see deer hunting improving any time soon in NJ.

I DONT LIKE THE FACT THAT IN THE LAST FEW YEARS THE " NJFG&W" HAS ALLOWED FIREARM DEER HUNTING AFTER THE NEW YEAR AND INTO MID FEBUARY. I THINK IT SHOULD BE LIKE YEARS AGO, WINTER BOW FROM JANUARY 1st THRU THE 31st ONLY, THEN ALL DEER HUNTING STOPS, ALLOW THE DEER A BREAK. IM SURE SOME NICE BUCK DEER OR I KNOW MANY BUTTON BUCKS ARE HARVESTED IN THIS LATE FIREARM SEASON, THAT WOULD MAKE GREAT DEER THE FOLLOWING SEASON.

I agree that the JAN PERMIT days have been the single worst thing to happen to the deer herd besides development. We have seen the Zone 2 buck quality drop each year since this has been imposed. Also, I personally have witnessed numerous button bucks being taken as well as a few bucks that had fropped their antlers by late Jan. I will once again write to the state asking that these days be elimated but since it generates $$$; this wont happen.

As for earn-a-buck, I' m not really for it as my hunting time is severely constraiend with 2 young kids but I do see the longer term benefits.
