What do you see in the future?
What changes do you see in PA for the up coming year?
Will we see a license increase? Any more changes in antler less seasons ,I.E. shorter or longer seasons in other areas? More tags ? Less tags? DMAT's good or bad? What will come of the pheasant program? What would you like to see implemented? |

More tags ? Less tags? DMAT's good or bad? What will come of the pheasant program? What would you like to see implemented? Doe tags are the red blood cells for the P.G.C. right now, no way are they putting a tourniquet on the wound till all of the blood is done flowing. May be adjust tag numbers here or there but you won't be seeing any major cuts. If any thing hunting days will be cut before tags are. As for Pheasants in PA ,god knows why things are done the way they are. We by hundreds of birds per year at a fraction of P.G.C. cost yet same Ole same Ole. We need to stock purely wild birds from a mid western state on to areas like the Erie wild life refuge,Pymatuming & Middle creek areas where they can expand their ranges naturally. A trapping incentive would help all ground nesting birds, our ruffed grouse population is nonexistent in my area. I would support a pheasant stamp for the right programs. I despise the extra turkey stampas its nothing but a cash raising ploy. When it comes to things I feel the P.G.C. is doing right, the list is short. They need to make a better showing in the eyes of those whom support them. |

Bawa,
Dont know about PA, but in Ohio, all state employees salaries are part of the public record and can be accessed by anyone. |
RE: What do you see in the future?
"Will we see a license increase? "
Nope. Absolute impossibility. Chairman of Fisheries and Game committee Staback basically stated that this situation needs to be a lot better than it is now, and wouldnt even be considered otherwise. He stated possibly if things are rectified, possibly in 2010. He said in 2009, NOT gonna happen period. "Any more changes in antler less seasons ,I.E. shorter or longer seasons in other areas? " I dont think so. I see little problem with actual season structure, and they are already evaluating the changes in the wmus for 1 week antlerless and will do so for a few more years before even considering changing others. "More tags ? Less tags? DMAT's good or bad?" Same ol' Same ol'. More than enough to hold herd to very low levelsandreduce in others. "What will come of the pheasant program? " Nothing at all this year imho. I would STRONGLY suggest a stamp in the near future. "What would you like to see implemented?" One thing and one only. Reasonable numbers of antlerless tags. I don't believe that "appropriate" allocations will be the norm into the future even if pgc does give in for one year soon to gain the license fee increase...Thereafter it will go right back to the treehugger agenda for another decade until they have to crawl once again and try to "make nice" in order to get more cash once again. Only fix? Clean house on the board of commissioners. Somehow we need to stop the steady influx of eco-fruitcakes onto that board![:'(] I agree with some of your post jim, but not the fact that PGc has to rely on doe allocations as a tourniquet. If they started acting a bit more concerned with the sport of hunting make appropriate actions known publicly and took the doe tags to reasonable levels, there would almost DEFINATELY be a license fee increase coming the following year. They would have far more to gain monetarily by getting the license fee increase. They could also easily survive the year with fewer doe tags until they recieved the increase. With each year that goes by and they remain headstrong, the less likely that will still be the case. |
RE: What do you see in the future?
I did'nt hunt Pa. again this year so im not sure if my visions count or not,,,,that being said,,,i vision the same old guys pi$$in and moanin about the same old $hit the last quarter of the 2009 hunting season. The hunters in Pa. used to be some of the most respected in the union but those days are so far from gone that the space shuttle itself could'nt retrieve that respect! The Hunting family as a whole in Pa. in so torn apart by the current issues of "DEER MANAGEMENT"that ya'll will never be able to agree. Like Rob/PaBowyer said in another forum "The PGC Did not pull the trigger" Wow!!! that could not have been said any better,,,and that being said "enough said". I waited all season to see what the Pa. guys were shootin with all the "BS" i read before season on here and let me tell ya,,,,i was not impressed,,,,,some good bucks killed for sure,,,but not the pics i was expecting. (take a glance down at the south forum and look at whats been killed in va. this year with virtually no restrictions at all) Theres no doubt that areas in Pa. have been mismanaged and overkilled and if your not able to acknowledge that after how many years of this constant bitchin and fightin on forums across the websites,,,then i feel fer ya!,,,money allocationsnor jobs are going to fix your problems,,,you guys better take a good look in the mirror and decide for yourselves how your going to fix the problem

Do you know that VA is planning on following PA's plan of implementing ARs and increasing the antlerless harvest?

RE: What do you see in the future?
I see the future holding a bunch of changes and regulations. Some good, some bad. What ever they want to throw at me I will adapt to and tryand have as much fun as I can in the woods. My biggest worry is the flood of hunters into the archery woods armed with X-bows. NOT looking forward to that at all. It'll turn into a silent gun season. [:'(][:@]:(
If I had a magic wand I would: Raise the cost of licenses $5 & all extra stamps $3 & get rid of the back tag system Raise the cost of doe tags to $10 and eliminate the country treasurer system. NOT allow X-bows into archery Allow sunday hunting Gun season would run the Sat after thanksgiving to the following sunday (9 days) It would be concurrent and keep the same AR's I would keep the early ML but can the early Sr & youth rifle season. Archery would start Oct 1 And run untilJan 15 Spot lighting would be outlawed Sept 1 to Feb 1 |

RE: What do you see in the future?
You don't need to convince me of it,its the rifle hunters you must appease.
And really how days does it take to kill one buck? Or is the longer season needed to kill more does? |
RE: What do you see in the future?
I guess that depends on the hunter. Personally, I love bowhunting so much, I simply won't kill a buck till a truly mature one comes by. I have passed up young bucks all the way to the last day of late season. Does are another story. I'm blessed to be hunting areas where there are plenty of them and with two teenagers who love venison, I take several each year but I also pass on them in areas where the numbers seem to be down.

RE: What do you see in the future?
Just remember we share the woods with others whom don't see the need for three months of a season that they get two Saturdays of to enjoy.

no spotlighting would help how poachers wouldnt do it because? it would be illeagl
|
RE: What do you see in the future?
No. SOME of them would no longer do it because the risk would outweigh the reward.
Much easier to get caught with spotlighting not legal. A million candlepower spotlight on the horizon has a way of catching your eye.;) Not something I would fight tooth and nail for, that is just my opinion of things being discussed. |
RE: What do you see in the future?
I predict,
no license increase full crossbow inclusion [yuck] less pheasant stockings and the year after inlines in the second season |

RE: What do you see in the future?
ORIGINAL: germain I predict, no license increase full crossbow inclusion [yuck] less pheasant stockings and the year after inlines in the second season its not crossbow,ITS ALL NEW HUNTERS THAT WILL BE IN WOODS SCARING WHAT LITTLE BUCK ARE LEFT. they will be after doe with bow but will spook the h out of buck. heck, i saw crews driving deer last year with crossbows and they were all handicapped too. most think the crossbows are gun too that you can shoot 40.50 /60 yds easy. more wounded deer, for sure. harder hunting for all of us in archery.[:@] but, there is PLUS with it, do to increase in hunters stinking up woods,MORE DEER WILL MAKE IT TOO GUN SEASON . |
RE: What do you see in the future?
ORIGINAL: bowtruck i hear they are going to make crossbows legal in archery when i saw crossbow hunters last year driving deer in wmu2g handicapped too, it opened my eyes. all its going to do is take in more money and make money for crossbow manufacturers. i see the compound bow going the same route as the recurve bow. i hear the compound bow companys are not very happy over this, their sales have been dropping. same for FLINTLOCK MANUFACTURES,they had to go to in-lines to stay alive on sales. i know hunters that got 3,000 or more in all these new weapons, they are spending a ton of money to get a DOE. unreal. |
RE: What do you see in the future?
I am sitting on the fence with the crossgun. I've shot em, killed deer with em and own one but could do with or without it. Except under certain late season conditions where cover is very sparse and the stand positioning is limited, I overwhelmingly prefer to use my compound. They are noisy, unweildy, and less stable and less accurate than a well tuned compound in capable hands. On the other hand, they are more accurate when in less practiced hands.
I'm not convinced either way as to what crossbows are going to do to success rates and what kind of hunters they will add to the archery woods. To me that means we should be cautious about letting them in. This is definitely onearea where the PGC has ignored the wishes of both the hnting majority and their own staff. The majority of huntersthat have vocalized a preference areOKwith crossbows but not in archery season. PGC staff admits they don't know what effect the crossbow will have yet it went right through.[:'(] |

RE: What do you see in the future?
The licences are going up over the next several years and thats not my opinion. Over the summer I read in The Morning Call, which is the newspaper in the Allentown area, about all the prices going up. Not sure if it was going to start this year but by 2015 they are supposed to have them where they want them. The crossbow is already in affect here in 5C. And its annoying to have unhandicapped people using them during the rut to harvest deer instead of a regular bow. But the PGC wants more deer killed in this area so thats what happens when the regular archers aren't getting it done.

RE: What do you see in the future?
My wish list would be to
1. reorganize the current doe allocations for each WMU. Just reading too much about deer resources in that northern teir. 2. I would like to be able to apply for my doe tag sames as resident license holder. I own ground, pay taxes in PA. 3. Hunt Sundays 4. Xbow legal for all in all seasons:D 5. Stop the youth AR system. Make it doe only and at worst make them shoot legal bucks. No favors being dome by allowing them to shoot immature bucks when young. 6. Implement deer check stations, same as bear check stations. Only way to get a vclear understanding of the deer, health and population. People on the whole will not send those post cards in! 7. I don't remember if this holds true or has not been brought up, Bring back the Triple Trophy Award. Make it Flint, bow, Xbow, shotgunetc. 8. Put a bounty on Coyotes 9. Implement Bear hunting during rifle season in the whole state. Get the PAPGC straightened out somehow. The commisioners are mouthpeices and have no backbone or are bought. Get the PAPGC out of law enforcement business and into the game management. Aslk the majority of hunters in a non-biased questionaire what the true feelingsAPGC and it's empl, oyees is and I bet it would be negative. Spend too much time arresting for ismall money nfractions that are mistakes and not enough on the real poachers abusers. They can't get to them anyhow because when you don't have money, what can you take from them? |
RE: What do you see in the future?
I've seen allot of calls for deer check stations. I see no possibleway to implement a system that wouldn't cost a small fortune and I think the reporting rate would be less than we have now.one of problems I see, would be the man hours required to man the hundreds of stations that would be needed.[:'(]
My answer would be a $5.00 fee added to every license, that fee would be waved the next year to all that reported their deer kill tally by computer for the previous year. All that would would be needed is a back tag number and a buck kill and number of does killed. If you didn't report last years kills then you pay another five dollars per year until you catch on.[:-] Would it work? ![]() |
RE: What do you see in the future?
1.Doe tag allocations are different for each WMU.
2.I'd have no problem with that if you own property in Pa 3.contact the legislature. 4No way but unfortunately, you'll most likely get your wish 5I can take the youth requirements or leave them. There's not enough out there to have an effect. 6If someone is too lazy and irresponsible to send in a self addressed postage paid post card, why would they go out of their way to drive a deer to a check station? 7Who cares? 8Why and who would fund it? 9Great idea, then in 2 yeras we can hear you complain how the PGC killed all the bears |

RE: What do you see in the future?
This is a wish list not a prediction
1 Smaller WMU's 2 Mandatory harvest reporting. With the new computerized system, requireeach hunter to complete the harvest report to get the next years license whether or not he harvested any game. 3 mandatoory bowhunter ed for all new archery hunters. Again with the advent of the new system, it would be much easier to enforce 4 Limit the kids specialAR to two sub AR bucks lifetime. With the new system,a first time junior gets two and only two special tags good till he's 17 that nust be used with the regular tag on a sub AR buck. Two small bucks while he's young is enough for any kid 5 first week buck only firearm followed by second week concurrent 6 Sunday hunting 7 allow a nonresident property owner doe tag system good for that property ONLY for the owner and the immediate family only. Otherwise, doe tags for nonresidents only after residents have a first chance with each wave of applications. Institute a preference point system for unsuccesful nonresidents in high demand areas t give them a chance ata tag that gets better each time they apply but miss getting one.Take the doe permits away from county treasurers. 8 License fee increase and take the power for that out of politicians hands so they cant hold the PGC hostage 9 Establish a seperate game land permit fee system and direct 100% of the revenue to a habitat and pood plot program. Chargenon hunting license holdersdouble for the privilege of hiking, cycling, horseback riding etc and make all game land users conform to orange laws. 10 Combine the PGC and PFBC (but keep them the hell away from DCNR) to save on administrative costs (admin costs are currently second only to wages and benefits for the whole PGC) 11 If the crossbow must come, proceed conservatively till we know the ramifications. Stop the expansion if it threatens the length or timing of any existing season or permit allocation 12 triple any poaching violation fines for poaching occuring from a vehicle at night |
RE: What do you see in the future?
1.Smaller WMU's
agreed, some cover way to much space and variety of deer management opportunities. 2 Mandatory harvest reporting. With the new computerized system, requireeach hunter to complete the harvest report to get the next years license whether or not he harvested any game. Agrred. But oif they can;t control a system that has been implkemented in other states for years, do you think they could manage this. I would like to see it ..... 3 mandatoory bowhunter ed for all new archery hunters. Again with the advent of the new system, it would be much easier to enforce Must have the initital hunters ed, can b done by expanding the current hunter ed an extra 4 hours. 4 Limit the kids specialAR to two sub AR bucks lifetime. With the new system,a first time junior gets two and only two special tags good till he's 17 that nust be used with the regular tag on a sub AR buck. Two small bucks while he's young is enough for any kid Man I don'r know about that one......... 5 first week buck only firearm followed by second week concurrent It doesn't bother me one way or the other. 6 Sunday hunting Agrred 7 allow a nonresident property owner doe tag system good for that property ONLY for the owner and the immediate family only. I'll take that in the initial wave, for additional tags use your point preference idea. I still pay taxes and buy a license, it does entoitle me over someone justdropping by for the day my friend. 8 License fee increase and take the power for that out of politicians hands so they cant hold the PGC hostage Do you think the PAPGC will act any differently of this enacted? 9 Establish a seperate game land permit fee system and direct 100% of the revenue to a habitat and pood plot program. Chargenon hunting license holdersdouble for the privilege of hiking, cycling, horseback riding etc and make all game land users conform to orange laws. Good one! Make em' card carrying or license carrying members. Needs done ASAP! 10 Combine the PGC and PFBC (but keep them the hell away from DCNR) to save on administrative costs (admin costs are currently second only to wages and benefits for the whole PGC) ??? no answer o this one. 11 If the crossbow must come, proceed conservatively till we know the ramifications. Stop the expansion if it threatens the length or timing of any existing season or permit allocation If that is the reasoning then include in that your compound weapon. If such is found everyone go back to a stick bow. 12 triple any poaching violation fines for poaching occuring from a vehicle at night Amen. Active Prosecution jail, fines, forfitures and all else. These people don't care unitl all is taken. |
