i hunted there for 4 years.. and NADA! so.. this will be my second consecutive year hoping to NOT goto Sterling Forest. what sux about SF is you need to go DEEP, and if you do, and your lucky.. now.. well goodluck lugging this thing for 2 miles in that terrain. will take you a full day.
not for me anymore.

I live IN Sterling Forest ,in warwick, its BIG woods and you really need to scout ALOT ,but not necessarily far from the road. My buddy found a set of 130" sheds ,100 yds from a well used pking area, while we were turkey hunting, and Ive seen some real whoppers driving home at night. There is alot of good, overlooked land to hunt. Go to visitor center, on long meadow rd, and buy a 7$ color TOPO map and look for the little pockets of land that no one knows about. Sterling is hard hunting but it doesnt get that much pressure during bow season, gun season is another story.

I hunted there all day, 2 sundays ago, but nothing ,too windy. I scouted out a nice spot for gun season though. Good luck.

I havent hunted there yet this year but I did scout for gun season (im tagged out for bow) on sunday and kicked up at least 10 deer but it was too thick to see what they were. I did see alot of rubs though. This year has some pretty good opportunites too, w/ all the new archery only areas opened up, these are areas I know hold alot of good deer. I am also amazed at how few cars I see everyday parked in these areas. Like I said last year in this thread, SF gets very little presure during bow season. A tip though, this year, the new ARs will probably get alot of hunters flooding into the smaller non AR areas north of 17A, so my advice would be to stick to the AR areas to get away from other huters.
