RE: NJ public hunting land

tO ALL CONCERNED I just got off the phone with theN.J. Dept of Fish and Wildlife asking them about leaving a tree stand up on WMA' s. Their reply was it should be removed at the end of the day. By leaving it up for all intents and purposes it is now a permanent stand and illegal. and subject to confiscation and disposal by the division. The reason being I was told is that it is now damaging the tree which is prohibited. I didn" t even want to bring up cutting vegetation for shooting lanes. But there you have it it is public ground and no one can " reserve" a spot. by leaving a tree stand up. So now all it takes is a call to the Division and the problem will be resolved.

Jersey hunter, who did you talk to? That was not the policy of the Division as of just a few weeks ago.

Just so you know, taking the stand would be considered theft, and depending on the price of the stand, could land the person taking it in a lot of trouble.

Where I hunt there has been a lok on, on a tree for two years now and no one has been in it in all that time . Before you ask I hunt the area just about every day and also there is never any tracks in the snow for the whole season. My question is that upon coming upon a stand day after day how do you know it wasn' t abandoned. I would never trust some one elses stuff. But would and still hunt 30 yds away. Funny the guy never came back, I get at least 1 deer a year from this spot. And this is not the only abandoned stand I came about. 1 was in a tree that fell down at least a year before. Maybe the guy was in it.
