PA deer Quizz

On page 65 in the Digest the PGC has presented a 10 question quiz on deer management. Here is question #10.

10. True or false? A shorter firearms season would reduce the antlerless harvest.
The PGC's says the correct answer is false. They claim it is the number of antlerless licenses allocated and hunter success that achieves a desired harvest. But, they also say that changing the length of the season may change the number of tags it takes to harvest a deer
and as a result the antlerless allocations may change.

So , they are saying that if the antlerless allocations were kept constant ,shortening the season would decrease the antlerless harvest. But, if the season was shortened they would just increase the allocations to insure the same number of deer were harvested. How could any agency be more disingenuous/

Can you explain what the PGC hoped to gain by denying the length of the season would effect the antlerless harvest? Why did they extend the antlerless firearms season in 2b, 5C and 5D ,if not to increase the harvest?
The PGc needs to regain its credibility with hunters and the only way that will happen is if we hold them accountable for what they tell us.

There is no point in trying to explain anything to you. We all know that whatever is said, whatever facts are presented, no matter how many experts are quoted, no matter how many results are shown or research cited..... You will still find a way to distort it so you can bash the PGC QDMA, DR Kroll, Dr Rosenberry, Dr Alt, Dr Samuel and just about every other respected wildlife manager in the world

You have an UNHEALTHY obsession with bashing the PGC and putting misguided spins on basic deer management.
If you focused your energy on something more constructive, imagine the good you could accomplish in this world

Actually I agree with many things those experts say, however not all the experts agree on the effects of ARs. Dr. Demarias has proven beyond a doubt that ARs resulted in smaller racks and high grading in Miss. Many states have repealed ARs because it didn't produce the expected results. Also, after 4 years of ARs in WMU 118 in MI, hunter support for ARs did not increase, and ARs were suspended. And, there is no doubt ARs increase the number of buck lost to non-hunting mortality.

You are entitled to your opinion ,but you have no idea what I do with my time when I am not on the MBs. Btw, did you notice that the PGC is no longer claiming that we will likely have," more and bigger buck than ever before" or that they aren't asking hunters to pass on BB ? Why do you think that has changed after 6 years of ARs?

Well at least you are good for a laugh once in awhile. I guess you might actually have a point here.... sort of. I guess if more bucks live through their first season, there will be more bucks available to get hit by cars, die from disease etc etc

More money for them by doing this in tag sales..

Uh, no, actually, its just the opposite, a shorter season would result in more money because more tags would need to be sold to accomplish the same harvest.
