Ok, i' m going to take some heat for this, but who else here besides me think Steve went a little over board if that truely is 1 days take? Maybe he has 10 -12 mouths to feed or donates to the needy, which is all good. But 4 in a day? One looks as if its the size of a large dog.

I had 4 come by the stand opening day of Shotgun in DE. When I shot the lead doe, the other 3 just stood there. I know I could have got at least 1 more, maybe all of them, just didnt feel right about it. The other guys in the club did give me hell for letting the others go though. Too each there own I guess.

I was just wondering what everyone else thought.

Well I have taken small ones before, But that was because it was older looking and I found out it was really a real small 2 1/2.. as far as 4 in a day, well in Jersey the zone I hunt Shot-gun & smokepole you can take 2 aday. Also the smaller the tender it is.... some times you have to take out small ones to get biger and better ones.

Duckmastor 2,
I take no offense to your opinion. The bag limit in the region that I hunt is one buck and unlimited does. A second buck can be taken after two does are harvested. The purpose, obviously, is to reduce the number of deer. I do not set the bag limits, but I do try my hardest to follow the law. I can remember in the 70' s when I hunted hard all season just to see a few deer, and considered myself lucky to bag one. Now we are overrun with deer but can' t get access to private property to hunt. All deer that I take end up in the freezer. When mine is full I donate them to the state program. Some folks told me that they would not even bring the young deer out since it was so small. My feeling is that I shot it, I' ll drag it out, process it, and see that it is used.

Nice Buck and 3 Doe is called QDM. The Buck/Doe ratio in MD and DE is skewed toward Does by far.

DNR in both states are begging hunters to take more Doe. I buy at least 3-4 Doe tags avery year. I don' t buy any beef,so nothing goes to waste in my freezer.

IMO as long as the game animal doesn' t go to waste and your state is begging you to harvest them - GO FOR IT!

i took a big old doe the first day at 8..then 915 i took a 6pt...my first buck....me and my dad have pics like steves....we took 3 within 3 hours...he took a big bodied button right after first light that he thought was a doe and he checked..turned out it wasnt...but then i took my doe then my buck...man we looked wierd dragging out 3 deer by 10am the first day...people looked at us like we are some kind of sickos and a few guys didnt think it was legal...but the laws say if one is legally tagged and you can take more if you have tags...i think thats a fun way to hunt....and we did our homework..thats why we were able to do it...we went back the first saturday and dad took another doe from the same spot...i didnt get a 2nd doe tag for that county...his came with about 8 others...we could doubled if i had a tag! and 4 deer really isnt much....we had a 3 or 400 dollar butcher bill and the frezzer is almost empty...we did eat ALOT of venison the past 3 months..people look at my like im rich when i talk about waking up and having steak and eggs every weekend...or how im going home to throw a steak or some chops on for dinner...little do they know its deer im talking about....and me and my dad are the only ones in the house that eat venison...i had a good year...my best...

Way to go Steve. The state of MD needs more hunters like us.

MD has a program where you drop your deer off at the butcher and they get the meat to a needy family. The six counties in the middle of the state have way too many deer and most of the property no one can hunt. Montgomery county gets over 2000 (two thousand) deer killed by vehicles every year.

Because of this, there is no limit on does in these counties. And no daily limit. That goes for shotguns muzzleloaders and bow.

Steve, the small ones taste better and are easier to drag. :D

Natty B.
Not only that, they are a test of marksmanship...they are harder to hit.:D
One thing I failed to mention in my earlier post is that I let eight deer go by after I had four down. I was afraid I couldn' t get them all field dressed and out of the woods if I shot any more. Three of them were better bucks than the one I shot but the bucks were not legal until I checked in two does.

My best year without a doubt 4 does and 2 bucks with my bow and before someone says something 3 of the does were with crop damage permits. And 1 buck with gun. I didnt even go with the muzzleloader as my freezer was full.

Mystic,
I was hunting on private land. Unfortunately, it now has a for sale sign on it. It is slated for subdivision, but the owners are asking so much it might not sell.

Congrats guys! I was pretty fortunate this year. Tagged out with a nice PA whitetail and two does using handmade wooden bows and arrows. The buck really got my heart pumping. I was setting up in a cornfield bare spot when the buck waltzed from a woodlot straight towards me. I crouched to the ground on my knees and kept my bow horizontal to keep hidden. My heart was jumping out of my chest, but I waited for the buck to offer a good quartering forward shot at 9 yards before taking the shot with my sideways-held bow. It crashed off and left the best blood trail I' ve had the pleasure to follow.

Here is the Buck I got in Oct. 2002, the Last day a Fall Bow in New Jersey. Got him with a PSE 55# compound using Easton 2018 xx75' s & a magnus 125gr Broadhead. The deer went about 50yards.

Just one doe! But meat in the freezer!

RE: How Did EverOne Do???

I got a nice 120 pound spike week 2 in Maine. I had an extra doe permit but never got the chance to use it, which was too bad since I am now out of meat. Between my two brothers, my father and I we took 2 bucks, one doe, and one fawn. The old man took the fawn as his first deer since becoming a quadrapalegic, so we were pretty stoked to have him get one (he' s been a hunter all his life and broke his neck in the middle of the 2001 when he fell from scaffolding). But, we were 4 for 4 in my immediate family and 5 for six in the extended family.

Regarding the taking of multiple deer, I personally wouldn' t have done that because I wouldn' t want to fill my freezer day one and not hunt anymore that season. But if you' ve got extra freezer space and/or are donating meat AND your state is overrun with deer I say go for it. Deer overpopulation is starting to give hunters a bad name as antis point to it and say, " Look at what their feeding, etc has done!" It' s a bunch of crap, but overpopulation IS a bad thing, so thin them out if they need it (the deer, not the antis:D).

I' m replying a little late. Just found the topic.

I took three deer here in PA. One mature doe in early bow season, and a spike buck and another mature doe in rifle season.

I hunted Illinois in November (:D) and took two deer out there. A young 6 point buck and a crippled doe. Probably the most exciting and action-packed week of bowhunting I' ve ever experienced, talk about big bucks, WHEW!!
