RE: PA harvest #'s?????????
Roughly shooting half of what they did 5 years ago seems like a little overkill on the population.

RE: PA harvest #'s?????????
ORIGINAL: Parednek I hear you i know alot of people that did the same thing. they're a little slow to figure out that it wasnt the pcg but there own actions and others like them that caused the whole mess Very few hunters own enough land to effectively manage the herd and it is illogical to expect individual to manage the herd when they have no control over what other hunters do in the same area. The plan to reduce the herd by 5% was based solely on the carrying capacity of forested habitat and made no allowance for the increased carrying capacity of fragmented forests. Therefore, it was gross mismanagement. |

RE: PA harvest #'s?????????
There is no doubt a lot of hunters are passing on deer in areas where deer are few and far between. But , there are enough other hunters with multiple antlerless tags who support the deer management plan and as a result they harvest as many deer as they have tags for and as a result the herd is still being still being reduced in most WMUs.

RE: PA harvest #'s?????????
Been away for a few days but in reading through the last few pages, I feel the need to point out that senior hunters have to follow the same antler restrictions as any adult hunter. Seniors do not have the same relaxed AR's that junior license holders do.
As for the alleged abuse of the junior rules, no one hasoffered any credible proof. Sure, there's going to be the occasionalpoacher that doesn't follow the rules but that individual won't stop doing what he does no matter what changes are made. I find it very funny that the individual member here who is pushing so hard for additional AR's on the youth is the one who rationalizes and defends the"good people" that he"knows"are shooting sublegal bucks to use the kids tag. The current law is not the problem. If a problem even exists in some areas, the poachers and those who refuse or neglect to turn them in are the problem. |

ORIGINAL: White-tail-deer ORIGINAL: bluebird2 Very few hunters own enough land to effectively manage the herd and it is illogical to expect individual to manage the herd when they have no control over what other hunters do in the same area. we saved a doe/fawn that was in area i hunt. the second day of deer season, in came a crew with kids and shot the doe/fawn. 4 th day in came crew and shot 3 small bucks that we saw ,of course it was juniors who shot them, right. this was about all deer i saw in this area which is about 2 miles ,maybe 3 miles. after season i saw 3 sets of tracks in snow, so i would say 3 deer got away. now, what are we to have if those people come back in and shoot off those 3 which may have fawn with them this year. this is why we can never have anything if hunters keep doing this.. its no wonder 4 hunters were mad when they saw that mother/fawn shot, they were real mad over it. these idiots that keep on killing until nothing is left and then move on to another area . here is another one. i have friend who hunted, lets say for 30 years. he saw good days and killed many buck.. i saw him last year and he had eyes as big as golfballs. he yelled out window of his car, HEY JOHN, I GOT A BIG DOE. now we are getting excited to kill doe after hunting for 30 years.i thought he was going to pee his pants in car. i could see a 12 yr old kid getting all glassy eyed but a hunter of 50 yrs old. now that the deer are hard to get and very few, some are being MACHO and becoming the great HUNTER. oh yes, even hunter of 30 years killing doe today is talk of town.. as paul harvey says,GOOD DAY! |

RE: PA harvest #'s?????????
I live in Crawford county. I have said for years this deer program is not just about habitat. Deer #'s have been falling even where habitat is great, like in our area.
Those of you that continue to drink the PGC's kool aid fail to see or accept that timbering is the best thing for the forest & all wildlife. If the sun can not reach the ground nothing will grow. Here is a picture of poor habitat on my land. ![]() |
RE: PA harvest #'s?????????
And here is a picture of some great habitat,in a couple of weeks you will not be able to walk thru this place. The only difference in the location of these two photo's is in the one above I was facing dew south in the second dead north.
Once again for the slow to comprehend its the sun lightthat makes plans grow. ![]() |
