Anit hunting radio update
A couple of weks ago I wrote a notice about a piece here in Maine on a community radio station. This morning Darryl Dejoy was on the radio this morning answering the "targeted" email campaign from his deer movement piece. He countered with lots of quotes from mid-western highway depts. and an insurance agency that cited hunting pressure as a cause of increased deer collisions. While I am sure that during the heavy hunting seasons in the midwest where deer driving by large groups is a regular practice, and the limited forest cover deer would move long ways, returning at night. But here in Maine our pressure is not enough to cause major deer movement.
It would not hurt Maine members of this forum to let WERU know that we are still disappointed with the lack of scientific evidence to back up this program designed to "educate" the public about Maine wildlife. Quoting opinions from other sources has never been an acceptable debating technique, as far as I know. contact them at [email protected] |
RE: Anit hunting radio update
How about the fact that without hunting pressure, there would be many more deer, and hence more deer accidents simply due to the math? Also, a large percentage of deer hit by vehicles happens at night, when there is NO hunting pressure. I wonder if they took that into consideration?
