Shotgun, Rifle or Muzzleloader?
 

Was reading the new issue of the NRA's American Hunter today and came across some interesting stats. Mountaintop Technologies of Johnstown, PA was assisted by Ballistic experts from the U.S. Army when they conducted a study comparing popular hunting firearms of 30.06, 12 Gauge and a 50 cal. muzzleloader. "In a long range test, the .30-06 caliber bullet traveled more than 2.5 miles, but the shotgun slug was a close second at 2 miles and the muzzleloader sent a bullet 1.75 miles." Also the study found the shotgun slug could travel farther than a rifle bullet during a ricochet/distance test.

Thought the stats were interesting. What does anyone else think about the Rifle/Shotgun/Muzzleloader issue?

Under what conditions can a 12GA slug travel 2 miles??

Most slugs are rated for 120 yards or less. I guess you could expand that by shooting at an angle or off a drop. I alsorecently read about some new 2 3/4 inch slugs that can go 200 yards shot strait.
