RE: GOOD LUCK De Gunners....
RonM, I read in a post somewhere you hunted near Jefferson's Crossroads. My Dad's farm is about an equal distance down RT 30 south of RT 16. I've hunted over near the Crossroads with some of the Isaacs a time or two. Some real bruisers in that area!!! Are you heading down that way this weekend?

RE: GOOD LUCK De Gunners....
Wow DEBob and RonM....it sure is a small world.....now which one of you is taking me huntin'????
Im kidding......DEBob I checked out the map for the midlands. Which road would I park on and what direction do I hunt?? Is it open hardwoods or pretty thick?? Trails?? Dirt roads?? I appreciate all the info. Would you hunt this in the am or pm?? Ive never been there so Im not sure about hunting before daylight. Are things pretty well defined that I could sneak in before daylight?? Parking???? Thanks again for the info. Id love to hunt with you all one day. One can never have to many hunting buds. AllenC |
RE: GOOD LUCK De Gunners....
AllenC, I'm only familiar with the property where it butts up to ours. The section I saw had semi-mature pines and a section of mature hardwoods. Looking at the map, there seems to be some logging roads that center the property. Between our property and the State's is an overgrown logging road. Looked like a good place to pull off a slow walk!! Might be best to scout it out midday and hunt the afternoon.

RE: GOOD LUCK De Gunners....
Which Isaacs' did you hunt with Trae and Tommy , one of them got a nice buck last fall , Iwent to school with their mom too, When you leave Jefersons going west go up about a mile before you cross over a little bridge and there is a farm house in the middle of the field on the right, a Clifton farm , Adams' bought it but Clifton still tills it. Deer are in there , like flies, I missed an 11 pt buck there last fall, by buddy got it 2 days later.. Iam no muzzle hunter,,, So its over for me.. Take care.. and we were talking about NWTF and I know Ted Palmer has done a lot for that organization...

RE: GOOD LUCK De Gunners....
RonM, That's a good area. Hunted with Tommy and some other friends that leased ground off of their father, Hobby. By your description, I may have hunted the farm your on back in the mid-80's with a farm hand that worked for Hobby's dad. Trey's buck will just miss the B&C record book as an 8 pt. That's pretty good!!!
I'm happy to hear folks take note of Dad's hard work. He's my hero!!! See ya around! |
RE: GOOD LUCK De Gunners....
DEBOB after you leave Jeffersons , I believe its the first rightturn , brings you out to a little 5 point crossinf kind of a small black community. When you make that right turn n the left is a small patch of woods that is loadedwith deer , even seen some turkeys there, during deer season though. There should be afew deer in that woods in front of your grandpops, crossover and make your next left, eventually brings you out to Wilson Bakers fuel tanks, that area used to be full of deer, when I lived around there. You said your grandpop carpenters every day in hs seventies. he has got to be at least 85 yrs. old, I'm 62 your mom is probably 60 this year, He volunteers for the historical society, he is a tough bird, no better person ever walked the face of this earth. His mother Mrs. Edith Marvel used to be my Sunday school teacher...... Take care.....
