RE: WILD COUGARS CONFIRMED IN PA.

I saw tracks in fresh snow (still snowing) over ten years ago in Delhi NY... When I asked DEC about it they acted like I was reporting a UFO and tried to tell me it was a bobcat,,,,, Tracks were larger than my hand and had NO claw prints like a bear would leave. The tracks were following a set of deer tracks I was on.
They are out there guys... And they didn't get there by accident!

todd a smith 11-07-2007 03:35 PM

RE: WILD COUGARS CONFIRMED IN PA.

yeah not by accident and notonpurpose either...these animals travel at night and can cover large distances..so
like the coyotes...they migrate too. pushed by our overdevelopment of areas.

i tell u what..a mature cat is a big KILLIN animal too. if one ever grabs u..
say goodnight:) i was watching a show about them in the west where
they grab joggers..bikers...dogs...cats...pretty crazy to think u have to watch
ur back walkin to stand...even though u do anyway.

See cougar, shoot cougar. and STFU!
If the presence of wild pops is confirmed, they will outlaw deer hunting, so the endangered cats have sufficient food.

Not to mention logging, hiking ,fishing and all the things most on here enjoy.. That way no one will bother them..So it is better to say it must have been a lynx .... Yeah, that's what it was...

i hear about people seeing cougars, but with all the trail cameras and all the people with cameras I cant believe there isnt a picture somewhere. I know they travel at night and are elusive but still.

RE: WILD COUGARS CONFIRMED IN PA.

I stepped out onto the back porch ofa cousin's house in NWTioga Co. last Sunday night for a smoke and heard theGod-awfulest noise I've everheard, coming from up on the mountainbehind his place. We immediately decided it musta been the scream of a wild painter, went back in to watch the rest of the NASCAR race.

[8D]

Over the past 50+ years that I've trundled about in Potter and Tioga counties, I have seen and heardalmost every species of critter that abounds up there, including a bobcat. Both species of fox, bears, 'yotes, possums, porcupines and coons. I have seen and heard assortedhawks, owls and one osprey. Even see the occasional, rare whitetail.

No idea what made that noise last week, so natcherly it musta been a catamount. :)

cougar is very elusive, yes, you are right, they do travel at night but in daytime sometimes.
the group i listed has pictures.
but you ask average hunter if they have camera with them, most dont but a lot are starting to carry a camera,me too.

1 i saw 12 years ago in clinton county was so fast accross road,no way i could have reacted that quick to get picture.
i was stunted when i saw it.

anyhow, this group is putting info in p[aper here, they are from virginia and have INFO and PROOF now of cougars in those following counties in pa.

lately i am hearing of no cougar sighting, so far, funny isnt it, 2 years ago, man, sightings reports i was hearing here, now ,nothing that i have heard.

i think its gas prices are doing it as i am also seeing less hunters road hunting or going to camp than i did last 2 years.

I heard the DEC released them in NYto control the Coyotes that they released to control theferal cats that escaped the abandoned farmsand ate the bluebirds that the state made the state bird.

DennyF 11-09-2007 07:44 AM

RE: WILD COUGARS CONFIRMED IN PA.

Might explain why I only saw one bluebird in PA last year. You figure them cats followed the 'yotes from NY into PA? In a few more years they should all be in Maryland, Delaware or West (By God) Virginia.

Fairly certain someone in WV would shoota pumaon sight once they get down there, so that's where the mystery will end.

:)

Sproulman...

Dude, seriously.

Do you hunt, fish, BE Outdoors.....at all?

Do you wanna KEEP those parts of your Outdoor Lifestyleintact..??

Proving cats in a place where they've not been for decadesis something you do not want to keep beatin' the drum about.

This ain't a who's right or who's wrong, who's got the bigger one....thing/competition.

If there's cats there then fine...but let it go man.

Just let 'em be without trying to prove to the whole world they are there.

The reprocussions from the whole world knowing about it are gonna be tuff to choke down.....think Spotted Owl.

Just let it go........................

wilds, this group found COUGARS evidencewhen our great game commission denies they EXIST.

hundreds of people hunters/non hunters were called bad names on hereby people who never saw one and think they are great outdoorsman and know everything.

maybe you all should be more OPENED MINDED and not make fun of all hundreds that saw COUGAR and some tried to make fun of them.

only reason this group was started was because of all the DENIAL by our game commissions.
no one likes to be told theydid not see what they saw, do you?

it will end when people like you and others stop making fun of hundreds of people that saw cougar.

no one i know of is out to brag that they saw cougar, we only dont want to be made FUN OF and called a nut as you read on here.

i remember not to long ago when ALL coyotes started showing up in pa. in huge numbers.
people denied they existed in great numbers.
almost like they werereleased to kill deer off, which is what the PGC/DCNR wants.
they say they did not release them, hunters say someone did.
same with COUGARS.
now we are seeing them and never did.

why is it that when the PGC/DCNR wants deergone that the COYOTE/COUGAR now roams states where they want deer gone?

this is what keeps things going.
are these predators being put in here to kill off deer?
they were not always here in numbers that are being seen.

i believe coyotes were released by someone, pgc denies they did it,dcnr too.
cougars, pgc says they are released pets,it took years for them to even say that.

this is what is keeping it going.

ARE PREDATORS BEING RELEASED TO KILL DEER OFF?

Went into effect this year. As long as you have a concealed carry permit, you are good to go. Doesn't say you can't carry a TC Contender with, say, a 30/30 chambered barrel and scope, does it?

as livbucks said, if you have LTC permit, you can carry pistol in archery.
i dont like it because some will shoot a buck with pistol and stick arrow in hole.
also i believe you could carry a bow/rifle in the early doe season, shoot doe then buck with bow ,if you are honest with bow.
i saw guy with crossbow on his back, rifle and pistol, man, he looked like he was going to war ,not deer hunting..

Think about it there are bear and bobcats in the woods. How often do you see one? There are many many bear around and you might see one or two a year. Bobcats are around in good numbers too you can track them but how often do you see one. I would say that if there are cougars around they probaly are not in great numbers. Makes sense to me why they are not seen often. And yes I do believe they are here in WV.

Are you kidding me? Haven't we been down this road a hundred times already?

wilds, this group found COUGARS evidencewhen our great game commission denies they EXIST.
So the undeniable "proof" is because the pumareasearch group (or whatever it was called) says they have "proof"? That's like the UFO research group telling us they found proofUFO's exist so we should all believe it. Wait a minute ...... do you believe there are UFO's too?[:-] How about bigfoot? There's bigfoot research groups too that I'm sure have compelling evidence.

UFO'S are the ones the stocked the coyotes.
Game commission hired them so they could get insurance company jobs when they retired.
I read it somewhere, so I know its true.

very good comments,thanks.
i am in woods more than most,4 days a week .
this year i saw 4 bears.
last 10 years, none.
3 years ago ,saw bobcat,
yet, bobcats are seen by others in same area.

i agree, cougars are not many, i believe they are wild cats, not released pets,i believe they roam from state to state and they are very elusive.

Charlie P 11-12-2007 07:03 AM

RE: WILD COUGARS CONFIRMED IN PA.

So elusive that no one has found a kill, which they would have to amke like once a week, nor has a trail cam been able to get a picture.

If they are wild cats doesn't it make sense they would establish territories across the country from where they have been established not just appear in Pa and not be in Ohio,NY etc?

RE: WILD COUGARS CONFIRMED IN PA.

Some tidbits from the site

They were not to be feared, only admired for their craftiness and determination to survive in the white man's pursuit to rid North America of unwanted predators

Wild cougers, pumas, mountain lions, panthers are"NOT" man eaters. They should be treated as their name inplies, Wild, but they are nomore dangerous then any other type of wildlife.
Only as dangerous as other wild life eh, like a bunny rabbit?

Since 1965 eastern states with the largest number of credible reports are:
Pennsylvania- 1,400+ including 330 Black Panthers.
New York- 900+ including 250 Black Panthers
Maryland- 550+ including 105 Black Panthers.
West Virginia- 485+ including 100 Black Panthers.
Virginia- 300+ including 50 Black Panthers.
Michigan- 275+ including Black Panthers.

If you come upon a Puma in the wild talk to and think of it as a overgrown female house cat & keep eye contact!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember it's a rare event to observe a Puma in it's natural habitat treat it as a honor not with fear.
Here's one of my favorites nice qualty map.
