EHD in West Virginia?
I've heard reports it has hit quite a fewcounties, but no specifics on whether it hit Grant or Pendleton. Any info would be appreciated!

Doug, I thought about you when I read this. I've heard of very localized outbreaks, which (from word of mouth) were occasionally severe (e.g. "100 dead deer found on a particular farm, etc"), but doesn't seem to be a threat overall for the region. Now that we've had some cold weather, shouldn't really hear about it again this year. I've been out 10 times in Jefferson County and have seen the regular numbers of deer (A lot:D). Back home in Hardy County (Moorefield), things seemed bleaker up in the mountains because of very little mast (including grapes which are a mainstay there). I've heard good "spotty reports" though.Either way, the agricultural areas and river bottoms should hold more deer than usual, imho. Good luck hb |

Doug, you might consider checking out the WVSportsman.net website and see if anyone has posted anything about that.
WOAY TV-4 here in Fayette County did a news report on the EHD problem and had a map that showed the counties effected. Fayette County didn't have any reported EHD, but neighboring county Raleigh did and a lot of northern counties. Sorry that I can't be of any more help. Hillbilly is right about the weather turning cold and shouldn't have a problem now. |
RE: EHD in West Virginia?
Thanks for the info guys! We won't have a problem now, but if the herd is decimated, that's not much consolation. I will check out that site, but hope EHD didn't hit my area, or any others hard at all. I know from my experience in Maryland how one summer/fall EHD outbreak can be so bad, it kills 80% or more of the deer and sets back the entire herdfor YEARS!
