$10,000 Reward in PA
Allegheny County Police Homicide and the Indiana Township Police Department are investigating a shooting that occurred on 10/6/07 in the wooded area behind the Indianola United Presbyterian Church located at 899 Route 910 in Indianola. Jason Davies, age 19, was shot in the face, neck and arm while bow hunting from a tree stand. It appears that this shooting was deliberate and not a hunting accident. The shooter has been described as a white male, possibly in his forties, approximately 6' to 6'2" tall with a medium to athletic build and grayish hair. The shooter was wearing hunting gear and carrying a shotgun. The suspect's vehicle is described as maroon pick-up truck with a matching maroon cap, possibly a 1990's GMC or Chevy. The family is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the identification of the person responsible for this shooting. Attached is a copy of the flier being distributed in the Indianola area. Any information contact Det. Scott Scherer (412-473-1316) or Det. Terry Heidger (412) 473-1310. RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
From what my brother said he is not doing very well was having more surgery I believe yesterday. He does have insurance from his work, but still has a load of bills coming in. My brother said they are not sure IF or when he will be able to return to work They(Fire Department) are looking at possible doing a fundraiser, but need to find a location and stuff to do it first. The hall they have at their department is tiny. They are not sure if he will ever be able to see again or not. Last I heard they had removed close to 90 pellets from his face alone and he had more still in his eyes. One report said there were actually two shots fired, so not sure on that one.

RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
ok...did thy catch the person?? did he know them?? that is crazy...wish that he could have shot back
|
RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
That is took bad. All it takes is one guy to taint all hunters.
|
RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
They have not caught him that is why there is a reward out. As far as did he know him I do not believe he can remember anything. Another guy that was hunting with the victim saw the other person who shot his buddy take off after shooting him

RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
Before everyone goes jumping to conclusions, do we really know what happened on both sides of this story. How do we know the bowhunter did not take a shot at him with his bow?
|
RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
Are you saying that the victim might have shot in the dark at the gun hunter under him, thinking he was a deer? First I heard of that scenario.
Wouldn't you yell instead of blasting the guy out of the tree? Twice! Sounds like a hit to me. |

RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
Sounds like the bowhunter yelled at a hot tempered crackhead for walking under him.
People are friggin insane anymore. That's why I never challenge anyone in the woods. I slink away in the opposite direction whenever I see a human in the woods, Just like a big buck would. I can't be bothered. The woods are big. |
RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
thats crazy.
he's worried about medical bills, and his family is offering 10,000 dollars? why isnt his family helping him out? |

RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
As far asthe guys asking about Medical bills I am sure his parents are helping him and he does have insurance. Asfar as a reward Moneywill make people talk real fast when it comes to stuff like this. Someone may knowsomethingbut be afraid to say anything, BUT $10,000 may change how the feel real quick.
As far as him yelling at someone from what I understand he only yelled when the guy aimed the gun at him, he was not yelling telling the guy to get out of the woods or anything more of a Why you aiming at me yell before being shot. This is what his buddy supposedly heard that got him heading that way and that how he saw the shooter and the truck he took off in. |

Does anyone know where D!ck Chenney was that day?
|
RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
Sounds to me like a squirrel/bird hunter went a little nuts. I wouldn't think the bad guy went out man hunting with birdshot. I know it sounds kinda silly but.....Squirrel Fever? Stranger things have happened
|
RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
This isa sad event. Hope they catch the idiot and hope the young man recovers.
|
RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
some people are such idiots! there's nothing that guy could have said to him that made him deserve getting shot in the face. i hope they catch that guy.

RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
If someone shot at me, hell yes I would defend myself. I carry a CCW with me during bow season for this very reason. |
RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
actually PA just made it legal to carry with a CCW even when spotting deer you can carry now Kinda crazy
|
RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
Here you can carry a handgun as long as you do not use it to displace a deer while bow hunting.

RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
I hunt in WV and Ohio and both states say it is legal to carry your CCW for personal protection and may not be used to harvest game, the gun must be concealed at all times as well. I only hunt in these two states and I always carry my CCW, I feel naked without it.
|
RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
WhenI lived in Maine I always carried, you never know who you are going to run into. One time I was scouting for deer stand spots and walked into bunch of pot plants! It is strange hunting in WI now and not having a CCW. You cant get one in this state.

RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
How is this guy making out now? I hope he is coming out of it OK.. I also hope they have caught this crazy one that thought nothing of it to shoot someone...
|
RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
a head shot , that guy was intending to kill the you guy . there's no doubt in my mind about that , especially since he yelled before being fired on , and two shots to the head to boot.
i hope the young man fully recovers , and yes , please keep us updated on this situation . whelen36 stephen d. |
RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
from what I have heardthey have still not found the shooters and it looks like th victim will now be totally blind from this.
They may be looking to hold as fundraiser soon for him. He has insurance, but I guess theer are a lot of things the insurance isnt covering ad thebills are comingin. Also not sure how long he will have insurance if he is not working due to this. |
RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
Wow. That sucks. That chunk of woods is right down the road from where I work. Pretty sure it's the same patch of woods I hunted years ago. Keep us posted...
|
RE: $10,000 Reward in PA
That sucks.....At least he is still alive.
|
I remember reading about this a while ago and was wondering if there has been any update to the case. Did the guy have a full recovery and did they ever catch the shooter? It really sucks that there are people like this in the woods.

There is a guy who lives locally to me. He has been a hunter for many years and goes on hunting trips every year. This past spring gobbler he went to WV for spring gobbler. He purchased an item from the local sporting good shop and then went to the Stonewall Jackson State Park and then shot a man- killed him- and then fled back to Pa only to go hunting in New York shortly after. The WV state police were able to track him down because the item he purchased was left at the scene and his truck's description was given to authorities. Read the article attached. I know this guy, he is my sister's boss and he is still walking around free. That is a bunch of $#!+ if you ask me. And as far as the SOB who shot that bowhunter... I am glad Pa's laws aren't as backward as WV's and this guy will actually get some real time if caugh unlike Bob Tobias.

I was two ridges over that morning and found 6 messages on my phone from my wife who saw it on the local news and panicked. All she saw was that a bowhunter had been shot in his tree in the area.
A police officer friend who was on the scene said at the time that the shooting looked VERY deliberate as related by the victims hunting buddy who was posted in sight. At the time, they figured that the shooter had to know the victim. The story was that the shooter parked his truck and walked straight up to the guy and shot twice. I'm amazed to hear that they havent caught the guy yet. |
