Our deer are loaded with them in PA. Most hunters mistakenly refer to them as ticks. They are a fly and drop their wings when they find a host. They land on people and bite them too. I have been bitten on the neck by them before. They move very fast as opposed to ticks, even in cold weather.
I believe thatPA is infested withthem because of the overpopulation of deer in past years.

I see them all the time while skinning deer here in the western Finger Lakes Region of NY...seems like most every deer has a few on them. I've even had a few crawling in my hairover the years too after skinning a deer. I don't really even paymuch attention to them. Thankfully, my area doesn't have many ticks...I've never even seenadeertick on adeer thats been harvested around here.

I've started seeing these things on all my deer in columbia county ny. Had one crawling on my arm thought it was a spider but it is hard shelled like a tick.

yes, we have them in ct and mass. they are a wingless fly. a pest but not as dangerous as a deer tick.

They're on every Bedford area deer I have killed in the last 3 years. Usually they are covered in them too. When the deer cools check the arm pit, if it has them they will be concentrated there.
