Calling all Deer! Is it too early?
 

Bow hunting starts saturday in the Southerntier. I have been hunting for many years with great sucess. I do use my doe call( i use the true talker)
I have never had a response to anything but a grunt and that was the first week of November, when they are in rut.
Have any of you had sucess using any type of call in the beginning of the season? Cant say i have.

I tried a grunt at 1 that was just out of range, it ended up scaring it. So I haven't had any luck with it yet.

The only thing that has pulled deer to me were fawn calls, but all I got were does. Just look behind her there might be a buck with her though.

Right now they are using mostly just social calls so grunting on most occasions wont work. It can but not usually. Fawn calls seem to work all the time for does like mentionedbut again right now there probably wont be a buck tailing her. I have called in does with fawn calls and a few bucks with grunts but much later on in the season and not all that many. But on the other hand I have used them quite a bit (or my mouth) to stop deer to get a better idea of what size they are. Good luck.
