How do you avoid the early season ticks and other bugs?

I live in Long Island where the ticks carry Limes disease.I amweary to hunt the early part of October because of all the bugs?I usually hunt an area that is relatively tick free but I cannot hunt there this year.I see lots of sprays but they all smell so strong. Any suggesstions. When do these buggers usuallydisappear for good?

There is a spray called No Stinkin' Bugs it comes in fall blend earth scent .It smells just like the scent shield that I use.But I also tape my pant cuffs and tuck them into my boots as well. The ticks are bad in southern Maryland this year as well and dont see them going any where until it gets colder

Permanone, great stuff.
I have used it the last two seasons and not seen a tick on me. Spray early and let the clothes dry and air out there is an oder that takes a little time to dissapate. Watch the Repel brand as most of what I have seen is scented.

Anywhere between William Flloyd and west hampton I think are the worst tick areas. I havent used any spray on my hunting clothes, but from what I understand it dries scent free.

I have used Adams Flea and Tick Mist. It works on my dogs and when I bow hunted on LI, I would spray it on my clothes as well, once it is dry the odor is gone. This is a water base product.

As far as when do they disappear, once the temps go below freezing they will be gone, and only when the temps are 32* and below. Once the temps are above freezing they will be back, and in full force.

Do you know if you can spray the clothes and the throw them in the clothes dryer in order to dry the spray faster? I am going to the woods this evening and i will only have an hour by the time I get home and spray my clothes.

I am also going out while it is raining here. Will the stuff be effective if it dries and then your clothes get wet from the rain?

Thanks for all the info.

I spray mine at the truck. Mind you I don't soak it. It's a little damp the 1st time I use it but that driesfrom the walk in. You don't apply it every time you hunt, it lasts thru a couple washings I beleive.

Hey Rick there ain't no bugs where you hunt!

Now that we've had some rain - the Skeeters and Flys in 3-4 days will be able to carry off a full size p/u!
