Why arent there NE hunting videos/articles
I am sure that you have all noticed that the majority of hunting videos are filmed in Illinois, Iowa, Texas, and other places. Why dont we see alot of hunting in New England??
Even the journals on this site....there are no representatives for New England? |
RE: Why arent there NE hunting videos/articles
They have to hunt the big ranches and outfitters where there is200 birds per acre. Would actually have to work to hard up here in the northeast. I have some friends who aren't short on cash and hunt midwest and south for turkeys every year to a man they all say the birds just tend to be tougher to harvest up here. I have no proof and am totally going on what they tell me.

I posted a similar question about deer DVD's. While I was able to find the Parson videos from PA and the Benoits have some of their filming in NH (and I guess the older ones have Maine too) there is not much else.
Reason?? I suspect the low density of game makes for a slow video, although a turkey one could be good. :DI always have wanted to see Jackie Bushman and the other TV hunters on video hunting public lands in New ENgland.Doing alltheir own scouting and set ups, just to see how they would fair. But those guys will never have a show w/o lots of deer to film and god forbid nothing dead at the end of the show. |

Our deer are pressured and nocturnal and SMART. same with our turkeys. You cant just set a stand up between the bedding and feeding area and kill huge deer easly. I would like to see more of that stuff though

Good call jf5 - I'll best most of the so called professional hunters could come up to the northeast, pick a ridge to hunt, and within a couple of days come out with a P&Y deer. That's why most videos are filmed out west - lots of private land with lots of fences. If you get a trophy in the northeast, you will have to earn it.

RE: Why arent there NE hunting videos/articles
I just came across your posts about nothaving many hunting videos from the North East, or the East coast for that matter. I live in South Central PA, and we have been making hunting videos for several years now. We have been getting excellent feed back from people throughout the area and neighboring states about the reality and how our videos target what most hunters can relate to. We hunt mostly PA, but also hunt neighboring states as well.Check out our web site for more info on our videos. Thanks.
P.S. My brother and I, as well as two of our friends from New York, Dave and John, are in the middle of working on something big for all the East Coast hunters looking for more from this part of the country. Stay tuned! Steve, Outdoor Encounters ![]() |

There is a big difference between TV hunters and real hunters. Thats why all the famous people keep away from out neck of the woods. Its like work and god knows those silver spooned rich folks don't know nothing about work.

RE: Why arent there NE hunting videos/articles
I feel the hunting is great in the New England states but certainly not up to the standards of the Mid West as depicted on TV. Many of those TV shows don't necessarily use fair chase and the rate of trophy harvest on those showsreally don't reflect the true experience of a hunt there. The shows make it appear that the hunter sets in a stand for 1/2 hour and Booner or P&Y deer continually wander by. The same thing could be accomplished on a deer farm or unhunted large private land based anywhere that deer live. Here in New England there is far more public land opportunity for hunting eliminating much of the trophy potential. In the Mid West most of the land is privately held and hunting is pretty regulated by the owners. Deer can live in many of those areas for years and develop into true trophies. Access to the Mid West is increasingly at a cost which is becoming too much for many of the average hunters. The people making the videos and TV shows just pony up the money and can hunt all they want for the end product of getting a kill on tape.

Alot of those TV hunts and hunts on video are on private land and are high fence hunts. It takes alot of time to get a kill on tape and the same scenes are shot over and over to give it the most dramatic effect.
I sawa behind the scences thing on how hunts are filmed, it is actually pretty funny. A deer comes walking along and wammo the hunter shoots it. Then like 10 minutes later they tape the guy pumping his fist and saying "Wow thats the biggest buck ever!!!" I don't watch those shows because they are such a crock!!! As far as them NOT being filmed in the NE. All the foilage and thick stuff does not make for good footage. I personally know someone who records sounds and films Animals in HD for major movie and tv production companies, Trust me it is not easy around the NE. |
RE: Why arent there NE hunting videos/articles
I hunt the 3 northern New England states and most of the big woods land is open and available for anyone to hunt. If your interests are to sit in a blind looking over bait or a food plot then find another place because these states aren't well adapted to that type of hunting. If you enjoy still hunting or tracking wild big mountain bucks in the snow then these areas are for you.
