Default New York - legal to shoot on state land?

Is it legal to do a little target shooting on state land? I searched through the DECs website and couldn't find any information regarding this.

Im not sure if its legal but I have heard of being being ticketed for it. But I have also heard of squirrel hunter being issued tickets for shooting .22's in the air at squirrels in trees. Only thing I could thin of would be unsafe discharge or a firearms.

Your best bet is to get a membership at a range. I pay 25 bucks for a year.

Many WMA's in Fl have Sight-In ranges. Doesn't any of your Public Lands have them?

I don't think it would be a problem as long as you are not shooting into live trees. That i know you can get fined for. If you intend to do a lot of shooting (ie: ar-15) then it might be wise to pick up the brace because a run in with the wrong dec agent could probably get you a littering ticket at least.

Here in Jersey we have designated ranges for sighting in slugs and rimfires.Along withArchery Ranges and also Skeet shooting areas.

sadly here in pa. you cant random shoot..we used to love to walk and shoot into old dead stumps..

kids thought this was great..

i see day you will not be able to shoot a squireal in a tree, only on ground..

i still think you should be able to shoot at a dead stump as long as you bring your 22 shells out of woods with you..

not fun in woods anymore..

you should see faces of hikers when you have pistol on your chest..real big eye balls from girlies..

I called the DEC about this time since we boarder a bunch of state land. It is perfectly legal to shoot on state land as long as you do not shoot at trees and have a good backstop. So we just found a hill, put up our target and sighted in our guns.
