Looks like archery lost some time?

Six weeks, same as always, just starts a little later.

Well, I am content with it. No extra time was allotted really for anyone, but at least none of us lost any.
I can't wait to report someone for shooting a buck that has a rack under the legal size...<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> |
RE: PA's 2002-2003 Seasons and Bag Limits
Since I have a 12 year old, I'm wondering about the AR'S for juniors. I see they can now shoot an antlerless deer anywhere with their regular tag. Is an antlerless deer now defined as one that doesn't have 3 or 4 points to a side or does a buck over 3" but with less than 3 or 4 points to a side get total protection? Did anyone at the meetings hear this subject come up?

AN antlerless deer is stil the same, any deer with less than a 3" spike. The bucks that have a spike over 3" but not meeting the AR limit are "protected antlered deer". From what I have understood jr's get no breaks on legal bucks. |

One problem I still feel that is being missed by the PGC is that they need to change the deer tags to buck and doe not antlered or antlerless. BUt maybe in the future they will realize this and find the err of there ways.

Absolutely right Brian!
If we need to protect young antlered bucks (and we do) we definitely need to protect buck fawns! |

Changing the regs to "buck & doe" istead of "antlered & antlerless" won't change anything. It might protectthose 2.5" spikers, but...SCENARIO...I filled my "buck" tag with a heafty 8pt, I've met the AR. Now, I have one tag left for "doe"(previouosly antlerless). I don't have the opportunity in archery season to harvest this "doe", so I'm hunting in rifle season. I see two deer late in the season...these deer are 120yds away. I have a good shot and both are mature sized deer. I shoot, and walk up to my deer. The deer has lost his antlers...It's, by your definition a buck, requiring a "buck" tag, and I don't have one. I'm now a poacher based on technicallities. NOT FAIR OR RIGHT!
Just a scenario that's really quite possible, especially with AR. Only because more small bucks will survive to drop there antlers. All of this is just my honest opinion, take it for what you want. Just don't take it for what it isn't. Jason |
