Saw an Eagle along Lake Erie shoreline

I was out on a test drive today during work around 2:00pm and at a place we normally go to see guys fishing for steelhead we looked up in a tree along the Lake where 14 mile creek empties in and there was an Eagle. It was within 50 yards of us so I'm positive thats what it was. I know its not exciting to most of you guys, but I never seen one here along Lake Erie. I've seen a couple down in Pymatunning, but never here. Just thought I'd share. I went back to the dealership to get a camera, but when I returned 15 minutes later it wasgone.

Awesome...I've never seen an eagle up close. The closest I've ever come was when I was real little down at Kinzua Dam. I can't remember it very well, but I do remember that the eagle flew down and caught a fish out of the reservior. Too young remember any details.

You mentioned Pymatuning....have you ever seen the Albino Redtail that lives down there? I saw it last winter sitting in a tree about 200 yds away. I never would have know what it was if my uncle hadn't pointed it out to me. That was cool...I would love to see it again.

thats awesome. we have some eagles that live around me in NJ.

us people who know where the nest areas are are sworn to secrecy.

the state doesnt want anyone to know where the nests are.

weird....

KoBear...I imagine it has something to do with them not wanting a lot of people to bother the eagles....especially if they are breeding.

I know around my house (near Siegle Marsh) there is a breeding pair who had some chicks this year. The game commission blocked off a huge chunk of land so people could not get in close to them. I've never seen them...I hope to some day though.

yea, thats what i was told.

they dont block off the area or anything b/c they dont want to draw ANY attention to it at all. from what i know, only a few of us know where it is. i found it accidentally and brought it up to the game warden, who then made me swear on my life that i wouldnt talk or else.....

they are beautiful birds. come up to the albany NY area during striper season (or anytime , really, when the river is open) and you can get ALOT of great pics. i've seen them steal fish from great blue herons, young ones learning to fly, lots of cool stuff!

assuming you meant Bald Eagles?

I live in Niagara County and have seen 1 bald eagle flying over Ellicottville. I saw it a few years ago and was shocked. They are a beautiful sight.
