Southern MD (Strategy for Hunting First Snowfall)

We had our first snowfall of the season down here last night, and I'll be out in the woods for an afternoon/evening hunt. What strategies are suggested for a season's first snow? I've heard close to bedding is a good idea on days like today.

I read somewhere that during the first snow, deer don't realize they are easily seen and move around quite a bit. Good luck!

RE: Southern MD (Strategy for Hunting First Snowfall)

I hunted my land today in Calvert with the ground covered in snow and a wintery mix falling. I started off walking following tracks being slow and as a quiet as possible. After about an hour of that, I decided to go climb up in my stand becasue I was actually getting too hot. I sat on a heavily travled trail but one that had no fresh tracks. Right before dark about 75 yards away I saw some movement from behind some trees and sure enough it was a lone doe. (so I thought) it stepped into an opening and I fired and dropped it in it's tracks. Then I saw another deer run over to it and just stiff around hanging out there. I climbed down with my climber and the other deer was still there. I raised my gun and from about 50 yds I could tell it was the mother deer. I spooked her enough finally to get her to leave. I walked up on my deer and found it to be a fairly big button buck. I am pretty mad at myself for shooting a nice big button buck that probably would of been real nice in a few years. O well. So this is my 2nd of the year, the first deer I shot was a 1 1/2 year old doe that dressed out around 100 #. I found it interesting that the deer dropped after looking at the hit. It was alittle bit back probably not a lung shot. (I didn't gut him yet) Another the thing the slug didn't exit the other side either only a small hole on one side. Anyway good luck in the next few days and upcoming week guys.
