dove hunting in ny
 
what are the penaltys for shooting doves on a private farm....they have corn in them....can they be considered a pest?

It depends what you are talking about. Morning doves are the light gray or brown bird commonly hunted in the south and midwest over sunflower fields. You cannot shoot those in NY. Rock Doves, or City Pigeons are the charcoal gray colored birds with red and green metallic heads. As long as you have a small game hunting license, you can blast away all day at these with no bag limit. I must stress though, and many people don't realize this, you HAVE TO have a license. Its just like hunting woodchucks.

I wonder why you don't have a season for morning doves.Even with all the hunters here in Pa we have a season on them.I tried it for a few years. Not as easy to hit one as I thought it would be, but many hunters find it enjoyable and just another time to get out to hunt.

I cant tell you either. It has something to do with the Migratory Bird Treaty Act I think. NY is only one of I think 8 states where you cant hunt morning doves.
