MD Early Muzzleloader Season
Early muzzleloader opened today in MD. Anyone have any luck yet? I didn't see squat this morning. Rain coming in tonight, so maybe this evening will be more eventful.

RE: MD Early Muzzleloader Season
I saw 7 or 8, all does and maybe a few of them buttons. It was fun to get out there, but I'm tired! BTW, I didn't want to shoot a doe, but was tempted toshoot the one blowing at me.

RE: MD Early Muzzleloader Season
I had an uneventful opening evening on Thursday. First, I forgot my orange hat. Second, when I threw the BP over the shoulder, the top strap of my sling came undone.... which caused third, my rifle to fall backwards and land, barrel first, into a very clay type surface. After a few minutes of trying to unclug the barrel, I managed to push the piece of clay futher into the barrel.[:@] So with that, I put the rifle back in its case and decided to just sit on my stand to see if anything moved. NEedless to say, I jumped one or two does on my way to my stand.
So yea, that was my Thursday evening story. :) I will be out there tomorrow morning in hopes that I see something in the early hours. Good luck! |
RE: MD Early Muzzleloader Season
Well I hunted three different stands, yesterday morning andevening and this evening and the only deer I saw was one that was road kill on the side of route 4....;-(
|
RE: MD Early Muzzleloader Season
But I sat thru the nasty 25MPH wind tonight in the swamps in blackwater and got me a spike sika deer.

RE: MD Early Muzzleloader Season
Congrats lefty and rick.
Well I got me a doe today. Got set up on the ground 1 hour before sunrise, got walked in on by another hunter hunting the adjoining propertyas the sun was coming up. He posted up about 40 yards from me, so I decided to move mylocation. Thank you to that hunter because that move put me onto 4 does, one of which I put a tag on (first with my ML). Now the wife can stop buying over priced meat at the store. Good luck to the rest of you Maryland men and women. Congrats to everyone else that has gotten a deer or gets a deer. |
RE: MD Early Muzzleloader Season
I shot me a nice doe on Thurs. morming about 9:00. I was hunting on public land in Montgomery Co.

RE: MD Early Muzzleloader Season
I hunted in St. Mary's Co. Opening morning I passed on a 4pt and two dogs.[:@] In the evening, I shot a 7pt that I was going to pass on until I saw how big his body was. I shot right through a branch that was about 8ft away and really thought that there was no way that bullet was going to hit that deer after going through the branch, but it managed to stay on coarse for the most part. I ended up having to follow the blood trail and heard him about 30 yds away in the dark trying to get up. I managed to hold the light against the stock and put a finishing round in him. Live and learn about scope shooting and branches up close! Other than that, I had to let another buck pass yesterday and a deer at dark that I couldn't identify as buck or doe. I went back the next morning to get my stand and took a pic of the branch while I was at it. Pics below.

Pic of deer. I'm not sure what he dressed at, but the butcher was thinking as much as 200. I was thinking 175+, but who knows with the new check in procedures.

RE: MD Early Muzzleloader Season
well i tried as much as possible to get out on the three day bucks and does but friday was cut short due to a stupid wedding that i had to go to and i had to spend my mothers birthday with her on saturday. Look to help out the herd a little bit on wednesday and hopefully see a fat doe. cant wait to get back out there with my Bow next week as does start getting the big boys all hot and heavy.

RE: MD Early Muzzleloader Season
[&:] Well, I have this friend that saw four deer the other morning around 7:30 , walk within range. He saw one with antlers and the others were does. He shot the lead doe at 40yds only to find 5" spikes behind his ears![:@] The ears had lined up perfectly with those damn spikes and I, I mean he:eek: didn't see them the entire two minutes he was walking throught the woods. **it happens I guess. The rules in MD say three" or less to be legal. I wonder how much leniency the average game warden would have or what the fine would be?

RE: MD Early Muzzleloader Season
I might go out tomorrow for a bit before the rain but I'm taking the bow if I go. Cause it never fails that when I'm out looking for does during the doe only muzzleloader season I'll see all bucks. The bow takes care of that problem.:D
|
RE: MD Early Muzzleloader Season
My 13 yo son got his first deer last Saturday and I shot a BIG doe yesterday evening. I've seen lots of deer this season. Seems like more than normal.
|
RE: MD Early Muzzleloader Season
I've hunted with a bow exclusively (for deer) the last few years. I took a large doe Monday morning on my place. She dressed 104 lbs whichis pretty nice for my area.
|
RE: MD Early Muzzleloader Season
Saw a handful last night between 515P and 600P. By the time 5 does decided to come out, I had a 4-pointer walking back and forth in front about 5 feet in front of my stand for a good 10 minutes. Had to freeze up the entire time so the other deer wouldn't get spooked. Needless to say, he hung around just long enough that by the time he went away, the does went back into cover.[:@] Ah well, back to bow next week!:D

RE: MD Early Muzzleloader Season
