RE: Pa's Silent Majority
grundsow not to be disrespectful, not my intention. but just what % of hunters responded to that poll? The pollsters would like you to believe they polled every hunter in the state. with comments like"2/3 of the hunters....."When what they should report is 2/3 of the returns from hunters...... And what % respond to any poll, unless they sit directly at issue over the topic? I think you know where that poll was filed by 99.99% of everyone that even took the time to read it. you have over 1 million tag buyers here ,getting replies from a few thousand at best surely does not prove anything .with the exception of showing just how few actually care at all....,ie. THE SILENT MAJORITY

The poll was done by an outside independent polloing Company. It might be a good idea to actually READ it before discounting it. You can read the whole thing, all 125 pages on the website Grund gave. The questions asked were not leading. They appeared fair and nuetral. Isn't it amazing, we all were just agreeing that hunters should be polled and when the results arent what some folks like, well, the poll must be no good!

Well, there is no way for every hunter in the state to vote on the subject. It just wouldn't work. You can only go by the majority of the amount polled. We can't even get an accurate count of the deer kill in the state let alone having hunters voting on ideas. It sounds like a good idea, but I don't believe it is feasible. If there is a way, I am all for it. I have mixed feelings about crossbows. I have HATED them in the past, but now that my grandfather is in the hospital and wants to be able to bow hunt, but won't be able to pull back a compound, I am starting to come around a little more. They aren't THAT different from a regular bow. It isn't going to increase the amount of people in the woods by that much. I don't know. I just don't know.
Good Luck This Season: Buck Magnet
P.S. Only Chuck Adams can sit at home and see deer so get into the woods. =;^)

RE: Pa's Silent Majority
There is no "biological reason" to not allow lighted sight pins, lazer sights, inline ML's, scopes on ML's, radios in pursuit of game, etc etc etc.
So is that how we judge things within the "sporstmens" community? Foresake all tradition, sportsmanship, challenge, dedication, and ethics....because we dare not infringe on another persons right to instant gratification? Where do we draw the line?
In PA....a "flintlock" is a ML. It should remain that way.....regardless of how many undedicated and lazy people want it easier. And no matter how many "vendors" whine they want into our market to line their pockets at our expense.
Likewise.....a Xbow is not a bow in PA. It should never be either. Regardless of the same issues....and regardless of how many OTHER states sacrificed archery for the sake of the dollar.
You want to shoot a Xbow or an inline? For that matter, anything other than a patched roundboall too....then use it in rifle season or hunt elsewhere.
I'm tired of being labelled a whiner about these issues....when the real whiners are the ones asking for acceptions...and then making woman-noises when they don't get approved for the easiest way possible.

Tell us how you really feel about these issue Ralph.... Geez bud...calm down.
Did the regulations go back to just round balls again for muzzleloaders? I heard they were pushing for it again but I didn't know if they changed it.
Personally, I would muzzleloader hunt if inlines were included. But, since they are not, I won't. Simple. I am just as happy to go out and use my bow. I definitely will not complain because they are not currently a legal weapon for the muzzleloader season....but I have a feeling that I am in the minority on that one.....
Buck Magnet,
It would be relatively simple to include a brief three or four question "ballot" that would be included with your hunting license. As you fill out your license you answer the questions. As each license book is completed the license applications/ballots could be sent to the game commission office to be counted. Simple...and I really wonder why somebody "in power" hasn't thought of it before now....

RE: Pa's Silent Majority
I didn't think of that, I just thought about asking each hunter to fill out a ballot and send it in. I guess that would work.

The 3 or 4 question ballot with the license is a GREAT idea!
Buck magnet, Your grandfather can probably get a crossbow permit right now and he should be allowed to do so. I guess he didn't get to get back out there hunting this year. lets all say a little prayer that he can hunt with you next season!
Finding myself agreeing with Ralph again. Inlines are modern day rifles designed to bend most states ML rules into a pretzel. Pa is one of few states to keep ML a true primitive weapon. If the able bodied want to bowhunt let em use a real bow period. If someone really likes the crossgun let him use it in gun season.
Heres a thought, if support grows for the crossbow, make it a legal weapon and run the season along with the smoke poles and call it primitive weapon season.
