Default Pa's Silent Majority

I got to wondering about this crossbow issue in Pa , again the other day. It seems to me that the vocals of the anti group are mainly members of the UBP of Pa., with a smattering of non members in tow. that while shareing the UBP's stance on the crossbow issue do not support the UBP nor it's politics.
I ask this? Whom ever asked the UBP to speak for the MAJORITY of archers , or any hunters of the state. In the first place?
The UBP has a membership around 6000. Hardly the majority of hunters statewide. Or for that matter even the archers...is it? sounds to me as though they and their splinter groups are really the MINORITY of the archers and hunters.
Since when in a democratic society does the MINORITY set the adgenda for the majority. Unless of course we speak of personal freedoms, which is not the case here ( religion, sex, race, etc.)
I suggest that in this issue we let the sportsmen/women of the state decide. The majority of them have already given their support to the crossbow by NOT opposeing it!

I'd suggest that based on the public comments at the PGC meeting today you're wrong once again.

I think when it comes to important decisions that effect us the Pa hunter we should be able to vote on the issue .They could have us vote when we purchase are new licenses for the year. Then they would have a full year to prepare and implement the new changes properly. Fooey on the commissioners who are on the take anyway for what ever they can rape from there position. Most them people dont represent the average Joe Schmoe hunter anyway.

I would agree with Cardeer on this one. I said the exact same thing several months ago. We, as hunters, should have the right to vote on specific issues, when we purchase our hunting licenses.

That would be true representation.

In all honesty.....in all my life & through a good number of states.....the "minority" in this arguement has always been those who are "for" Xbows in general archery seasons (that includes those states where Xbows were already legal too). And most of those have been firearms hunters who where not archres at the time and were only looking to make the archery season easier so they could play with limited effort.

AS for the license buyers voting when they get their license Great idea It rvey seem pretty easy to include a survey when you buy your license.
As for wide support coming for the xbow, I only have seen strong support from the manufacturers and from a few rifle hunters who are not committed enough to put in the time a conventional bow takes but are somewhat jealous of the time archers get in the woods. The guys from Ohio I've talked to say that's exactly what happened. To be fair, most of the ohio guys I talked to about this were guys I met at IBO shoots that shoot compounds.

why not let the hunters at the very least have a checkoff at the time of lisc. purchase on a poll of whether or not they support the crossbow. The PGC has proven in the past they are not to be trusted with public comment forums,ie.putting planted deputies in the audience to comment in favor of what they want...and getting caught at it.A.K.A. Bonus doe tag sales
Crossbows should be legalized in Pa no sound management reasoning not to. When is the question if not incorrporated into the current archery season. Then a season all to themselves. When? maybe the current archery season needs to be trimmed to make room for the next sporting group....like the last 2 weeks of it. Yeah let's put that on a poll for ALL hunters to vote on!!!

The PGC did ask PA hunters in general. The survey by Responsive Management done in April 2001 showed "All proposed changes that involved crossbows lacked support from Pennsylvania
hunters."
.

Go read all the questions if you like: http://sites.state.pa.us/PA_Exec/PGC...nterSurvey.pdf
