I hunt the Pine Barrens... unfortuantely, no acorns at all. I was gonna collect them from home, but I figure whats the point? They've never seen them anyway. anyone think it will still work? The other problem is I will only be there once a week, so I re-stocking is really not an option, other than when I am actually hunting. I am trying to get a few bags of corn though.

you can make a gravity feeder pretty cheep out of 6 or 8 inch pvc pipe and that will make your corn last longer if your worried about theft. also it's lot more work but if there are a lot of people in your hunting area sweet potatoes last longer an blend in with forrest floor a lil better.

I've seen the PVC feeders before. Actually had to take some off of land I owned in upstate NY once. Someone put 3 up just inside my property line from State Land. They work well. If I get time to get corn, I am going to set some up.

believe it or not there are acorns to be found in the pine barrens. they are what i call scrub oaks. they are about waiste high and are loaded with small acorns usually along the sides of roads or fire trails. you will also find red oaks and a few white oaks. the red oaks are bitter and they wont feed on them as much as the sweeter white acorns. the problem is if you throw out a 50 or 100 lb bag of corn the deer will move in and have it cleaned up in a day or 2. you need to scatter it in the thick brush to make them work for it. if you just throw it out in the open it will be gone quick plus in the open when you draw your bow you will get busted. better off throwing it in the thick stuff and make some small shooting lanes.

thanks for the advice. there's lots of under growth where I go, and if it didn't get struck and burnt up over the off season, I know exactly which really tall tree I want to focus on.
