NY DEER HUNTERS: Incoming info on DMP's Updated!

Roughly a 5% increase statewide from 2005 for the 2006 season.

I see the 06' season permit chances is up on the DEC websight now. 1 area I hunt is offering a med chance on permits, it was closed last yr. While the other I hunt is still by preference pt only. I was hoping they'd closed that area this yr.

i hunt 6G and i believe that my chances ahve decreased since last year, from medium to low, but i dont mind because we just havent had the number of deer in the last year or two so i would like to see the population come up a little

Same here. I went from high on 1st and 2nd to high and medium this year. Some areas are still getting a hard hit in reductions.

Ifanyone would like EXACT numbers for your WMU on how many permits are targeted to be issued, their expected take from those permits, DMP take per square mile, buck take objectives per sq. mile, (all objectives for 06 season)pm me. I have the official numbers from the central office.

I cant help but wonder...with all the recent complaints about no deer due to overharvesting, the DEC mismanaging the herd, and just not seeingbucks, I must ask...why is anyone this year hoping for extra tag opportunities? Many of us talked about doing our own management just a few short months ago. For what its worth, Im seeing fawns, bucks and total numbers up as usual. I hope this encourages some of you!

Bill -

I do know that there is a big disparity across the state. 5% up statewide says one thing. But the problem is some areas are still seeing double digit reductions, while others are getting bumped up. I believe one unit may have lost 60% from last year, if I remember correctly.

I agree with Bill on this. I'm very encouraged seeing 5 yearling bucks, 4 forks and one spike on my property during spring turking hunting in 7R. Seen more does (only 2 fawns), but again that was back in May. Haven't been back to the property due to summer travels, but looking foreward going back when I get back at the end of August to set up the camp.

Hope we all due our part and let them grow, they would be nice to see in 3-4 years!

Want venison, shoot a mature doe, let the small bucks go. :)JIMO. Rod.
