RE: Baiting Coyotes in PA
Next question is it illegal to shoot a fox or coon over a bait pile for a coyote? Are coyotes the only animal that you can bait in PA??
|
RE: Baiting Coyotes in PA
Only coyotes and you can't use a road killed deer as bait.

RE: Baiting Coyotes in PA
Do you have a link as to any limitations regarding baiting Coyotes ?
I checked the 2006/2007 PA Hunting Digest and it really doesn't mention any restrictions for baiting Coyotes while hunting. For some really strange reason it does mention that bait used for trapping them cannot be visable form the air; not sure the reasoning behind that. ![]() |
RE: Baiting Coyotes in PA
Idon't have a link but you need a permit to pick up a roadkill and I believe it has to be used for consumption. It's something along those lines.I just know you can't pick up a roadkill and use it as bait.

RE: Baiting Coyotes in PA
There isn't anything in the regs about having to consume a roadkilled Deer. As long as you get a permit number within 24hrs, the only limit on it's use is that you can't "give it whole or any edible part ofadeer killed on a highwayto another person".
Roadkilled Deer/Possessing Wildlife: It is unlawful at any time to possess live wildlife, except foxes for which a permit has been issued, or animals killed on highways. Pennsylvania residents may possess deer killed by a motor vehicle if they secure a permit number from the Game Commission within 24 hours after taking the deer; call the appropriate region office. It is not legal to kill “put it out of its misery” any injured wildlife; again, call the appropriate region of- fice. It is unlawful to give the whole or edible part of a deer killed on a highway to another person. |
