Why only allowed to hunt turkey till noon,

looking through the regs I see hunting hours are only till noon. Whats the reason behind this?

i guess it is because they want to give the hens time to be on the nest. If there gone to long, more chance of predators getting at them

from what i have heard, it doesnt take much to push a hen off the nest (unlike geese that will stand their ground and fight). and hens easily abandon nests if distrubed too much. so by hunting only in the mornings, it decreases the disruptions

that could all change in PA in 3 years. they might let you hunt all day.
i could be wrong but i think they have done studies and they dont think that it causes the problems that they once thought. but who knows.

yes its about hens nesting....us getting in there adds more potential to kick them off...and they dont return really quick...which lowers the temp of the eggs which could be bad...but then again they roost at night anyways...maybe turkeys arent like other birds eggs....my enviromental problems teacher told us he was doing research at a wetlands and kicked atleast 6 geese off their nests and how that could take away a small chance of them hatching because it lowers their temps.....

even if PA allowed it i doubt id hunt...maybe evenings....right now your lucky to catch me in the woods passed 10am! lol....but thats going to change this year...im going to try to be a littttttle more patient...

I don't think it has to do with nesting , Indiana allows dawn to dusk turkey hunting and has for a long time except for a few recently stocked counties .

I always thought it was so you didnt shoot them from the tree's. As they go back to roosting in the afternoon.

Shooting roosted turkeys is generally frowned upon but not illegal here , I don't think it's that either .
