Default Hunters against A/R in NY. Read.

I normally keep my nose clean here, because I like the forum, and wish to be able to express my opinions without attachments to my work, which is related to the hunting/fishing/trapping fields.

Anyhow, if there are hunters in NY that are against A/R for whatever reason, and would like to be a part of a public knowledge piece (read: article) in a well-established publication...contact me via pm. I'm looking to get basic comments, and reasons for being against A/R. Keep in mind, this is an objective piece, and these comments will serve as a counter to the proponents.

And, please don't turn this post into the last thread (50 billion pages). I am not posting this to be a discussion thread on the topic. Instead, it's about getting into contact with other NY hunters about a hunting subject.

A/R is the mandatory decision by some as to what buck a hunter can legally shoot. Either by points per sideor by rack width.

Phade - I deleted my opinion comments to keep this on track - please, others do the same.

Have a little experience with it. It actually produces more antelered deer in the long run, wouldnt think so. I mean if you are gonna shoot one with spikes or forks, why not shoot a doe? I know it is a touchy subject but it works........

I'm not so sure, maybe, as a rule they would help produce better racks.
But we have had 4 pointers go in the 200 pound range and they were old
deer. And we have had 11 pointers go into the 170 pound range before
and they were old too. So if you have large deer with small antlers is it
still good to pass the small antlerd genes on and keep reducing the size
of deer racks?

Well, in my area of NNY, if it has antlers it gets shot, spikes and forks, would like to see what they look like say the second or third year, then you can decide, should it be culled or kept but shooting them the first year doesnt give you much of a chance to judge.

Here it is the same if they have antlers over 4 inches it gets shot.
And I understand what you are saying. I just thought that this
has happened here in this area and one year most of the large
deer were small antlerd. Now we are starting to get a larger size
rack but we have less deer. So I guess it is a catch 22 type of thing.
