A bounty has the connotoation that the animal upon whom the bounty is placed is evil
Naw...just undesireable in the grand scheme. Evil is an imagined trait invented by man.

I agree with you to a point. I understand that all animals need to be respected. I understand that coyotes need to hunt and do kill deer to eat. I do understand that hunters kill alot more deer in PA than coyotes do.

Here's what I don't understand. I always hear that coyotes only kill sick, injured or old deer. This sounds like something that came out of the anti-hunters handbook. I know that sick, injured and old deer will be the first deer to be killed by coyotes, only because they are easier to catch. Yes, coyotes do kill off deer that were wounded by hunters, but coyotes are fully capable of taking full grown healthy deer and they do it often. It would seem that the deer thatthey kill in July and August would not be hunter wounded deer.
This is a misconception fostered by the bunny huggers, my friend. Coyotes, like other predators, will certainly take the sick and the weak, and certainly do feed off wounded deer that hunters lose (for whatever reason). The same can be said of wolves. Wolves and mountain lions will also take perfectly healthy animals.

Coyotes are no more a super predator than I am. They fail to kill many more times than they succeed. If they were as good as some seem to think they are, there would not be a prey animal left anywhere in their range.

This is an interesting thread, but the original intent was on the subject of mountain lions, which is also interesting to me.

[quote]How many coyotes have you killed this winter? The hunting regulations on them are about as liberal as you can get. Do you think the blame commission should kill them for you? And one last thing. Where do you get this "The deer herd is in trouble," stuff? There are enough deer out there to have good hunting. If you aren't seeing enough where you hunt, change areas. The problem is that you have to hunt them now. You will never see the herds of fifty deer you saw thirty years ago, not ever again. Get used to the idea and start becoming a hunter. That is what it is all about. [quote]

I haven't killed any so far because of nagging injuries related to my disability. I'm going out tomorrow though so hopefully that number changes. I do think the deer herd is down and i have reasoning to. i hunted all of archery and rifle season and i believe i may have seen 25 deer the whole time if i am lucky. I went weeks in between sometimes without seeing any. I dont want the days of seeing 50deer a day but i would like to see 1 or 2 everyon a fairly regular basis. I doconsider myself a hunter so i dont think i need to become one. I scout year round i know whats in my area and it's poor. Land access around here is hard to get. I have 4 pieces of ground i have access to so i do hunt different areas the hunting is just getting poor. i logged so many hours on stand last yr i would not even be able to take a guess. My main area is not overharvested either we work together with the neighboring land owners and limit our harvest every year. This has been going on long before i started hunting and deer were very abundunt. Up untill about 3yr ago hunting there was great. Coyote tracks started showing up there about 6yr ago. We have also found coyote killed carcasses on the property so i do believe the coyotes are killing some of our deer. The deer have no reasoning to leave the property either because we always provide them with crops every year and they have cover and still abundent browse. I'm not saying the coyotes are killing all of the deer but i do believe something funny is going on.

I DON'T FAVOR EXTERMINATION BUT CHAMPION CHALLENGE. PREDATORS AT CLOSE RANGE WITH RISK. AND NOT JUST RISK OF MISSING OR COMING UP EMPTY. REAL CHALLENGE WITH SOMETHING MORE TO LOSE THAN JUST A BULLET. LET'S HAVE MORE ENTHUSIASM. ENJOY A SHOWDOWN AND GET THE BLOOD FLOWING. ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.
