If he gets to be director of the PGC I want to be Director of the USFWS...

Why should he get all the attention...

*bearklr, you speak so intelligently on here, how come when Imdrinkin with you all I hear is grunts and caveman noises? I cant wait for next weekend in the mountains Ill bring a gallon of Capt!! Maybe well see some mountain lions, wolves, bigfoots's, and a polar bear or two!!!!

ORIGINAL: Windwalker7

We debate lots of things in these forums. As long as people debate and try to prove their point, in a civilized manner, more power to them.

When people resort to name calling and insults, then there is a problem. Hey, if there are pictures of mountain lions in PA, I'd like to see them or know where they are at. If someone isn't interested, don't click on the thread.
we kinda blew that one too!!!

mossy, the picture i put on is a mountain lion .i wish too that tail was seen more but that picture was not a bobcat and not put on here to make a fool of anyone,or i would not have put it on.i am fool if that was so.you had to see the ORIGINAL picture minus tail.color, muscles, size.no way a bobcat looks like that,no way. a picture of a bobcat and size is no where near what was in that picture. dogs in pictures that go 80 pds were smaller than the picture of that cat.i dont believe we are looking at bobcat.its just that i never saw bobcat with muscles in shoulder and organish color and one that big. my question is, could a BOBCAT go say over 100 pds and have organish coat and big muscles and rounded shoulder or hump on shoulder?i agree with you, i wish tail was shown more and that would have ended it.but i feel we are looking at montain lion.take care.

OK jhoffman...I dub thee director of the USFWS. And NYBH...these threads always end up the same way and I doubt it will ever change but I guess that's the fun of it. There are people who believe they are here and those that don't. People just enjoy writing and debating. I know more times than not, most of the info is just reiterated from one thread to the next but it's still fun and there's always that glimmer of hope for proof. Sproulman, mossy is just being facetious. He's not criticizing the picture rather taking the opportunity to poke some fun. Speaking of which mossy, next weekend up in Lycoming county should be a blast. If you bring the captain I can guarantee we'll see a few bigfoot but I doubt there'll be any lions...they don't exist silly.(sorry, I couldn't resist)

sproulman,
When you took the picture of the dog, was the camera the same distance away as the camera was from the moutain lion? Was it the same camera or a camera with the same optics? If the answer to either of these questions is no or you don't know then you really don't have any way to confirm a size difference.A blue gill can appear to bebigger than a horse in a picture if the blue gill is close and the horse farther away. You can create the same effect with different optics too. I really don't think you know how far the cougar was from the camera so I really don't think you have a valid size comparison with a dog. I really don't think you can determine the weight of the animal in the picture. In order to acurately measure an object in a picture you need to know2 things. 1) The distance to the object you want to measue. 2) The distance to an object ofknown size.

sproulman.....i was just messin with ya! You do not haveto explain to me, I just saw a heated debate and had to interject some humor in it. In no way was I trying to oppose what you were posting....I just found it funny that the thread was titled Mt Lion pic and it took me like 15 -20 pages to finally find a picture I think all of these posts need some humor in them, heck some of these guys act like this stupid message board is actually WORTH fighting over. I say we should all gather up our pictures of game that we think live in PA (sproulman you can bring that pic of your house cat if you want) and we meet at a bar in Central PA and get hammered. No sense in going overboard over an internet squabble!!!!

All kidding aside... Knowing all of the forest in PA and how many acres of land that are not even accessible by most hunters. Hypothetically - "IF" there is a mt lion or mt lions running around in the wild in PA or in NY for that matter. Is it really that hard to believe that it could roam around for quite awhile before being spotted.

Just on my hunting property in St Mary's PA we have 100 acres of our own, there is another camp which the owner of it passed away and his son's who own the property now live in CA that camp is about 500 acres and is not hunted except for by people out of my camp. On the backside of both of our properties is a easily 1000 acres of land owned by the power authority which is landlocked by our properties so no one can get to it without asking permission from us to use the access rd which is gated and locked.

That is a lot of land that has no human activity on it besides in the immediate camp area for 10 months out of the year.

How many other places are like that in PA and if you think about it I am guessing there are quite a few and some with more land than what I have available to me. I think there are a number of animals that could go undetected for a long time before anyone realized they were there.
