What happens to yearlings during the Rut?

Will a buck run the yearling off from it's mother? I was wondering this because during archery season, I had a yearling by itself come up and bed down 5 yds from my stand with no mother in sight. It was the 2nd week in November when the rut was in full swing.

Momma will run the fawn off herself. Especially a BB fawn. I saw all kinds of single BB's wandering aroundthe begining of november.

Mama cuts the apron strings once it's time to get busy.

That is why it is so easy to take a BB. They are on their own for the first time and just a little naieve at that point.

The mother usually leaves the yearlings to go mate but she does come back for them after shes done turning her tricks.
