NJ Firearm Opener

Hello Guys,

I've browsed the board for a while, but this is my first post. I don't know how many people hunt NJ, but the statewide firearm opener is this coming week. My question is - we're expected to have some pretty cold and windy days, with the possibility of some snow or rain. Do you guys usually sit all day and hope thatopening dayactivity moves them, or do you think they'll be bedded down in the brush and pinesto stay out of the wind? Just looking for some input.

Thanks

Welcome! I hunt Zone 2 and will sit for as long as I can. Usually other guys get edgy and start walking or going back for lunch around 11am so you never know. I know that it's hard as heck but that is your best chance. Where are you hunting? Good luck.

Just stay put and let the other guys chase them to you.

If you can, stay on your stand all day andeverday. Maybe, break up the

day with two different stand on the same property or area to break-

upthe day. Plus, a change of scenery helps out. This is hard it's what

mygrand pop made me do when I was a kid.Yes, I did shoot quite a few

deer by doing exactly that, just sitting.

I remember my grandfather shoot at around 9:15am. Man it was like

thethirdday of the season. I waited for about 20 or 30 minutes. The

frustation and curiousity was killing me. So, I got down and started

walking over toward his stand. Not really paying to much attention. Then

BOOM! BOOM! about 75 yards to my right. It seems that my grandfather

has shot a smallsevenpointer. He and another hunter are tracking it now

and were comingin my direction. They were thinking, "We will pushthe

seven pointerto Ryan." (me) Well what ended up happening was I

pushing a big buck to them. I don't know how big it was, just 207 lbs., 11

point buck. That was coming straight for my stand and they would have

pushed it right to me, had a followed the rules. My grandfathers buddy

shot it at 30 yards with buckshot. Man was my grandfather pissed at

me. So, stay on your stand, boy!!! You, too, could shoot a buck of a

lifetime. This happened in 1982,I have learned a lot about this sport and

I still stay on my stand all day during the NJsix-dayshotgun season.
