PA Bowhunters

Am I the only one wishing we should be hunting this very week right now? In every state around us, the archers are in the woods chasing the bucks around during the peak of the rut time, while we are sitting around doing nothing. I for one would love to see our season extended that one extra week, or even started one week later for that matter. There's nobody in the woods right now hunting that wasen't there last week, so why are we cut short? I'm not complaining, just wondering outloud. I don't ever recall reading or hearing about this question being raised to the PA Game Commission, and I see no logical reason why we shouldn't be allowed to hunt now.It seemsour season always ends right when thingsare getting really hot.I would like to see an organized effort topossibly bring this in front of the Commission. I personally don't know how to organize something like this, so I feel somewhat dumb typing this, but I would like to hear itbrought upat some of the winter meetings by someone who has more know-how that I.

Just wanted to put an idea out there...

Mikey: Everyday that I'm not in the woods, I'm wishing I was.

I do like the idea of moving the season back one week so we could hunt more of the rut. This year the rut seemed to start extra late in my part of the state. What about yours?

I took the buck in my avatar on Friday Nov. 4th, and he was hot to trot. He was chasing does like a nut in an oak flat near me, grunting like an idiot. He came inlike a tank to me grunting with my voice, and for days after that, I saw no real action, even on the last weekend. Halloween weekend I saw a bunch of buck activity, saw a fight, and several bucks dogging does. I was dissappointed in the activity of the last weekend though.Don't know what happened, saw several adult does, with no bucks in tow. Warm weather? Probably had something to do with it.According to Charles Alsheimer of D&D Hunting magazine, the late full moon (which is now) is triggering the does coming in heat......which is now. I've been following his writing for 4 or 5 years now, and he's been bals on. I just know now it's probably a great time to hunt, and I'm at work...

Pa archery should start Oct 1 and run thru the end of january, never going out.

We have a lot of backwards laws in this state that don't make sense, this is certainly one of them.

I did some spotting last night and I saw 3 monsters on the move. I mean 20" wide big bucks..

The rut did come in a little late this year, but look at it this way. Next year it may be a little early and we'll all hit it right on the nail.

However I'd like to see the opener pushed back a week and run a week later too. Then give the animals a week break after bear season. Then let the gunners chase them out of the state.:D

I agree, guys. I've never heard any worthwhile reason as to why PA bowhunters have to sit home on their thumbs during the best twoweeks of the season.

Rybo, you're right - PA's season start/end dates are a mess, and what really strikes me as odd, is that nobody really complains about it.

If guys would cry about Sunday hunting and extending bow season, the way they cry about these Antler Laws, we'd be hunting 2 days/weekend from October thru January.

I agree with starting a week later and ending later. We should also do the sunday hunting like eveyone else. Of course our game commission is so screwed up that eventually we will be only allowed to hunt on wednesdays and every other thursday so we can get the deer herd up.
