Taking kids on opening day of firearms

I was just curious. I hunt public land on the eastern shore for firearms opening day. I will not take my kids with me on this day because the woods are filled with people and i have seen quitea few nuts out there.
I was just wondering how many others feel this way?

I haven't hunted the shore in years so I can't honestly say what public land there is like. Why not take your kid with you in your stand? That way, you can point out any safety hazards that you witness by other hunters. Lets face it, our kids are creatures of habit. If no one points out these things, they will adopt them as their own. Besides, what better way to get a kid hooked on hunting. Just remember, they are kids and don't yet have our enthusiasm for hunting so an all day hunt may be a bit much depending on their age.

Don't put your kids in you vehicle either. More likely to be killed in a car than a hunting accident.

Thats the thing, i am a ground hunter. been hunting for 20 years and never been in a tree stand. I am sure it would be ok if i hunted from a tree stand but i hunt on the ground. It was the way i was taught and just never tried a stand.
