Do Bears Eat Sassafras leaves
I Hunted Pa. for the opening Day of Archery. Windy as hell all day, the only deer I even heard moved out in the dark when I moved off the trail to set up my stand.
At mid day I did a little scouting down the trail and I came on a area with a very clear and high browse line. The trees were various sizes of Sassafras trees from 3-30 ft. high. The leaves and stems were picked clean; typ. of deer feeding; but some of the thicker stems (1/2-3/4") were snapped in half about 3 1/2 ft. off the ground. I've seen this done to young pine trees on the other side of the same wilderness area and I'm sure this was bears. I did see one pile of bear scat on the trail but nothing in the grove of trees. Also, most of the oaks in the area had already dropped their accorns, Isn't this kind of early? |
RE: Do Bears Eat Sassafras leaves
COME ON, SOME ONE IN PA. MUST HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE!!!!!!
Do Bears eat the tops of Sassafras trees? Or is this a case of very hungry deer with big teeth. |
