Well Saturday dad and I hiked around 5 miles in some clear cuts. We
only saw a few fresh tracks. My dads knees (one replaced, the other
needs to be) were giving out so we went back to camp. I sat there
while dad laid on the couch sleeping and thought about the days we
would hike the deep woods with ease. Kinda made me sad. He is a old
VT hunter now andI needed to change the way we hunt.

On Sunday we stayed out of the cutoffs went in back of the camp
about a mile or so. The snow/rain was falling and was sticking to
all the brush. Dads eyes are not that good and his glasses kept fogging
up. We finally got to the open hardwood ridges were we could see alittle
better. My brother inlaw was in front and I was staying back waiting for
my father. I heard Mike say moose and I went up to see. The cow we
were after was standing in front of us. I could only see the front end and
thought dad could see the same thing. He couldn't......After Saturday he made me agree that if I had a shot I was to take it. I looked to dad and
said do you see it? He looked over and said shoot it. Isaid come here
and he said....SHOOT..... I placed the cross hairs on the base of the
neck and down she went.

I love my dad to death.This was his tag, his moose, his hunt and he
asked me to go with him.I can't say enough about a man that took his
39 year old kid hunting....The memories we have of this hunt will last a
lifetime and what he gave me will not be forgotten........

Great story about your Dad. I am 40 and my Dad is just like yours. One knee replaced and one needing it. He bought the land (80 acres) that we hunt on here in WI. He does not get out much at all but my son and I (and now Tim) do get out as much as we can. I know he gets just as much if not more from seeing us hunt then when he did. I know this because I know how I felt this year when Matt (hoyt14) got his 7 point and Tim got his first ever with a bow. The memories you created will last you both the rest of your lives. I do hope you have many more hunts with your Dad.

Awesome story. All of what you have said makes me think about the days I have spent with my father in the woods.

I can't drive by an old hunting spot that my father used to bring me to with out thinking about those days.

Congrats! Big G...you couldnt have said it betterin regard toyour father! My brother and I were moose hunting here in ME a couple of weeks back. My brother shot a small bull 702#, it was the third moose we've gotten in 4 years and by far the BEST because our 79 YEAR OLD DADwas out there with us at 0530 in the pouring rain Monday am! I'm 44 and my little bro is 38 and the older I get the more I feel blessed for the times with family! Plus moose taste great--eh!
