New Hampshire Questions
 

I have been invited to go muzzeloading for deer in NH next month with a coworker of mine, but I have some questions. First of all, are inline muzzleloaders allowed in NH. Are scopes allowed to be used on muzzeloaders?

Also, what is the hunting like? I normally hunt in the Catskills in NY, but have never hunted NH. I am really looking forward to it.I'm not exactly sure where in NH we will be, but the guy who invited me told me not to expect to see a lot of deer. Do they grow any decent sized racks up there?

Anything you guys could tell me would help!

There are deer in NH, but you may think otherwise if you come from an area with high deer density.

I'm a NH transplant in IN. Night and day. I see more deer in a day here than I have seen insome seasons in NH. BUT, I like NH hunting better. In my part of IN, all land is off-limits unless you have permission. Woods are SMALL, and it's mostly all stand hunting. In NH, you can hunt any land not posted, and if you want to still-hunt you can.

There are big deer in NH, but they aren't behind every tree.

To answer your first question, in-line ML's are legal and so are scopes in NH.

As far as how the deer hunting is, it really depends on where in NH you are. Up north, the freedom and land available to walk for miles with little or no competition for large bodied deer with decent racks is an awesome experience. Here cutting the track of a big buck in the fresh snow and running him down the "Benoit way" is the lure. Down in Southern NH the deer numbers are much higher, but people densities go way up as well. I'd say buck quality is equal to NY, but there is less pressure here. I love NH hunting.

NH is thebest place on earth!All MLisOK in NH.I have relatives in Catskills and began myhunting thereas a kid. The main difference is the landscrape. NY is easy to navigate and hard woods are spread well and sighting is easy.

In NH the woods are a little thickerand you need to find a good scrape run to sit on to get some good oppurtunties. Deer are populations are not reallyless in NH,more than you will walk right by them an not see them due to the density ofthe woods. I was sitting one day having lunch and adoe came into the clearing ahead of me. I watched her for 15 minor so and suddenly, an 10 point stood up 50 feet from me from behind a log he was laying behind and startertowards her right past me. What a look on his face as he passed an looked about 5 feet from the log I was sitting on.

West and West Central NH has great hunting if you put some planning into it.
