Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
My nephew and I put up some ladder stands a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday we went out to do some more scouting and decided to check an area where we put up a brand new ladder stand. When we got there it was GONE!! This wason a450 acre private and posted property. I never got the chance to hunt from it. Talk about being tickd off!! The scum who stole it is probally some looser that sits home and collects welfare while the rest of us pay for him to sit home. People who steal from others are the lowest forms of life. I hope the rotten SOB falls out of it and breaks his neck.
I just had to vent. Now I feel better. MIKE |
RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
i wouldnt feel lie a true hunter hunting out of a stolen stand

RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
Just so you will feel better, i had two ladder stands, feeder and two trailcams stolen from me last year in NC. If the person that stole them would drop me a line, i would be more then happy to let them have the rest of the ladders and the one camera they missed. (and a few other things)[:@]

RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
Normal here in SE Pa. The fleamarkets are full of them for sale

RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
Unless you live on the property,I suggest you lock everything down. We had the same problem at my buddies land. Well over 100 acres, all of it posted. It's sad, but true there are scums out there that know they can sell this stuff. We now lock and etch our NY license number on the stands.

RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
It is bad when that happens. I lock all of mine to the tree with a 6' double eyeaircraft cable from Aubucions. They can still cut it but need pretty decent bolt cutters to do it. So far since I have started that I haven't been ripped off.

RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
Tough break and I know what it feels like. What's really sad to me is that it just isn't a rare thing. Seems like everybody I know who has used a portable for very many years has had at least 1 stolen.

RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
thats sucks that people out there can steal other hunters stuff...how would they feel if they walked into the woods at dark only to find out their treestand was stolen. the best thing to do is put a lock on them so that way it makes them harder to steal but the sad thing is if they want them bad enough they will steal them somehow whether they are locked or not[:@]

RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
Personally, I suspect that a substantial number of stands are stolen by the PETA types.
|
RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
I had 2 stolen, so I switched to climbers. I agree, 2 types of people are usually responsible, the tree hugging PETA types living off daddy's money, and the "I won't work and you can't make me" public assistance scumbag who gets to hunt everyday while the rest of us have to go to work and pay for their kids. Just the way it is up in my neck of the woods.

As a police officer for over 12 years, I feel your pain. I too had a stand taken a few years back. There is not much you can do unless you can prove who took it. Try a climbing stand. They are a little more work but worth the piece of mind when you not in the woods.....just my two cents..
you have a right to be mad....you not alone... |
RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
Unfortunately I too know your pain. I had a climber stolen from private property years ago. It still really burns me up when I think about it!!![:@]

RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
Here in NJ, if you leave your false teeth in the woods someone will take them.

RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
Welcome to the club. I have 26 wooded acres in a residential area and had 2 stands stolen off my property. I have since posted it and actively enforce the borders now. It ruined things for everone.

RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
i had that happen last year, but i brushed it off. i had an api that was laying around and i put it on a private property that i was hunting and it was stolen:) i have the lone wolf alpha hang on...with 4 sticks. get that sytem and 3 hanging loops and u will never have to worry about a stand being stolen again:)
we hung one stand with a krytonite cable and they stole it??? how in the hell did they do that??? |
RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
I don't want to jinx myself but a stand can rot away in the tree where I hunt and nobody will touch it. As a matter of fact, there are 2 standsI know of that were left in the trees by their owners about 10 years ago and they are still there, on property that is open tohunting.I left my hang-on in the tree over last winter and I am going to hunt out of it on Saturday. Must be a regionally specific condition.

RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
I feel your pain as well. My brother & I each had stands stolen on our parents woods a few yrs back. My was chained & locked, his wasn't. Didn't matter. I Left a note in the tree inside a plastic baggy. Hung it w/ flourscent orange ribbon. It bascially read " I hope your proud of yourself for stealing a stand from a hard working person who supports a family of 2 children. Persons like yourself give hunting a bad name, and you haveNO right to even be in the woods. Enjoy my stand seeing your to broke, to buy your own. Oh by the way the local authorites have been contacted." That note hung there the rest of the season. I also went to all the surrounding neighbors to inquire, and warn them of the theft. I'm sure someplace along the line I spoke to the culprit. Since we've posted the land, and no longer are neghbors allowed on it, nor do we venture on others land as it used to be. I did call the authories, they suggested I mark stands with my name so can be identified. Yeah good luck!!
To prevent future thefts I went to those lag bolt hang on steps. Well guess what, I discovered people can climb up your tree on the lag bolts. I had another stand stolen the next yr. on a public piece of land I'd hunted for yrs w/no previous problems. That stand was also locked, but this time with a cable lock. Now I use a climber, but still hang a few portables in spots can't find a climber type tree. I use a climbing stick, and take it in & out with me. Its been 5yrs, and so far no more stolen stands. |
RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
That is why you have to plant asmall remote control explosive device somewhere in your stand. That way, you can just guess when the guy will be hunting in your stand and you can detonate it LMAO.
|
RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
Maybe, you should take a bolt or two out of your stand to make it fatally sabotaged when you get out of it, so whoever climbs in without knowing that it is sabotaged will simply fall to their death. Just a thought!

RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
A friend of mine who is a farmer, asked me if it wanted to borrow one of his set ups for an electric fence and electrify my remaining stands. I thought about it but figured if the low-lifes who trys to steal it gets hurt, he would hire some sleezy ambulance chasing lawyer and sue me!!

RE: Brand New Tree Stand-STOLEN!!
I always lock my tree stand and take the ladder down it makes it a lot harder to steal that way. I haven't figured out a way to lock my ladder to the tree yet. Don't want to run 3 or 4 wires and locks for it and one long one would be too much trouble getting through the woods. But there has got to be a way.Does anyone have any idieas Thanks Mike
