License sales down 12%

The game commission has confirmed this. Some say social security numbers are the culprit and others say deer management.
Obviously other stamps or tags are also down like archery, bear, doe, etc.
Who knows where these gas prices are going to stop so I suspect alot of hunters will cut down on the long trips also.
This isn't good news for those that support the PGC being seperate from the fish com and or DCNR.I one who supports the PGC being a seperate agency.
This lost revenue isn't good for an agency already in financial trouble.

HMM ,Looks like the doe permits are flying out the doors to me. I can see the drop in hunting licenses happening though. People around here cant find a place to hunt so they are going to maryland and the virginias

No doubt BT.I think a merger would be a lose lose situation for us hunters.

On the other hand, a financial crunchwithin the PGC might get them off their butts and force em to cut some more trees.
IMHO that would be a good thing.

An increase in timber cutting ? Good idea.

I don't think the reduction in license sales has anything to do with any deer issues in Pa. My goodness, there's deer everywhere; no shortages at all. I think the lowered license sales are just an annomaly of a lot of folkstaking their vacations at different times this year. I'm sure there will be a surge in sales by Thanksgiving and the numbers will be back up.

Geez, you guys are on the ball. Within a day of reading these type of articles in either the PA Outdoor News or our local paper, The Morning Call, one of you folks has the articles posted up here.

:)

I read the article yesterday and think it is a combination of both causes....SS #'s and low deer densities in some sections of the state.
